Avelo ending West Coast ops

It is wild to me that they flew to SLE. I thought I saw a 737 taking off outta there once, guess that was them. Figured it was some MikeD kinda DoD contract bird. Also, I wonder who will take the BUR "gates"? Another question, are they (KBUR that is) building a new terminal there? Is that over where Lockheed Skunk Works used to be?

Yes, KBUR is building a new terminal.

Avelo is currently subject to lots of protestors for choosing to operate deportation charters.

I have a friend at U whose GF is a FA for the deportation flights.

Politics and morality aside, it’s a pretty easy gig as they’re just there for evacuation purposes and don’t do a service.

As someone who had an airline close the only base on a certain coast and be forced a base on the opposite end of the country, my sympathies go out for the guys at Avelo. Transcon commuting isn’t for the faint of heart, and permanently moving puts one away from families to where you only end up seeing them once or twice a year.

:(

I think it’s a real stretch to hold the avelo pilot group responsible for the morality of deportation flights. I think protesting an airline for picking up a government charter is insanity. Protesting nonsense cheapens the act of protesting.

I am not surprised their west operation is closing up. I really don’t see how they were making it work. Similarly on the east coast they’re getting a lot of pressure from breeze and other carriers. Cities like ILM have grown beyond what I think the local populations will continue to support.
