Auburn\'s Flying Program

I'll be attending Auburn in the fall, I'll have my private and instrument. Can anyone try and tell me what to expect? Also, I thought i would probably try and join the flying team any info on that would be appreciated!

Re: Auburn\'s Flying Program

I don't go to Auburn, but I know some guys who go there and I used to live around there. The flight program leaves much to be desired. The planes are expensive to rent and the wx is bad most of the time. Don't expect to fly much between the months of April and October unless you're IFR rated and like 100+ degree heat. It's just too hot most of the time and it rains a lot. Other than that, Auburn's a good college academically and a fun place to spend four years. If you want to go to college to fly, go somewhere else. If you want a good education and want to have a great time, go to Auburn.

My CFI went there as did one other from the flight school I was flying with. They both speak pretty highly of the place... For whatever that is worth.

Re: Auburn\'s Flying Program

Almost every time I post a comment I mention "flight teams" this one is not going to be any different. I strongly suggest you join the flight team at what ever school you decide to attend. Though being a member takes up a lot of free time, it is well worth the sacrifice....best of luck where ever you go.

I've recently been accepted to Auburn. I'm really considering it for it's Aviation program. Mostly because the weather is better, the prices are better and it's a good school academically. Can anyone else offer suggestions, comments, advice on the school? Thanks.

For anyone else that is interested in Auburn's Aviation Program...I just spent a few days down at Auburn checking out the program, meeting with people and getting an idea of what it is like. I thought I'd share with anyone that is interested in what they have to offer.....

I have to say that they don't have the newest equipment or the best facilities, but they certainly know what they are doing when it comes to information and teaching a student everything they need to know and more. I would rate Auburn as one of the best places to get your flying done with a Collegiate Program. They hold you to such high standards that I can see why the name might be recognized in an interview. Also, they have a fantastic campus and the town is pretty good as well. Although there is nothing wrong with being immersed 24/7 in aviation at an all aviation school, I really appreciate Auburn's Aviation side, and the actual University side. So, you are not completely living aviation and have hobbies/activities on the side. I would definately recommend their program. Although I have not commited 100% to Auburn, I'm certainly finding more and more reasons why I should go. Hope this helps answer some questions, and if anyone has any others feel free to ask and maybe I can help answer after spending some time down there.
