Not knowing the area very well, what suggestions would you have for navigating that? I can't draw a straight courseline, and I can't really use radio nav. Though I am familiar with the landmarks, I'm afraid of being off, unless ATC is willing to give me vectors until out of Class B. Would they do that?

I was trying to figure out exactly your question... It's probably OBE by now as you've decided to go to Sulphur Springs:
But to answer the question... I don't see any problems with asking Regional Approach for vectors... call up Regional approach (124.30 or 124.25) as soon as you're done with McKinney tower (asking for FF and B transition at 2500) You can follow 121 (it was a two lane road before, but it's now been expanded into a big 4-lane highway) until it gets to the Dallas Tollway. Follow the Tollway south (keep the Tollway on your left) until you see Addison. Regional will probably hand you off to Addison tower (126.00). Overfly Addison or whatever direction they give you. Addison will hand you off to Love tower (118.30 or 126.40). Love will probably ask if you can see their tower cab and have to fly directly towards that or they may have you fly down the 18/36 extended runway centerline and overfly Love Field. After overflying Love field, you should see Mountain Creek Lake at 1-2 o'clock head for that. After you are clear of the B airspace (at Interstate 30) Love tower will either hand you back to Regional (125.20), or may radar terminate. Over Mountain Creek Lake, you can go direct Glen Rose VOR and then from Glen Rose direct to SEP. You'll probably talk to Grand Prairie, and Spinks tower and Arlington CTAF on the way to Glen Rose to let them know you're going thru.
Anyways, wherever you go, have a good flight.
Alternatively Lancaster (just SE of Redbird) has a lively airport cafe with a good airport crowd.
