ATP Time Building Best Location?

Hi,

I'm researching the best location for ATP's multi time building program. I'm considering JAX. Can anyone share their experience or opinion?

Thanks!

Why you would choose ATP for time building? Are you crazy? I honestly can't get involved in this discussion. Good luck!

Cessna or Seminole? I paid $100/hr for 25 hours of timebuilding in a 172/S, dual. That's not a bad deal at all, it was a nice intro to IFR as well.

OMG! Are you guys cray? I can't believe what I'm reading. Not a bad deal you say. I was splitting multi time cheaper then that.

I thought you weren't getting involved.

It worked out fine for me, built my time to get into the program, logged a bunch of actual and experience in the IFR system (and got to fly every last minute, not half the time). Nice jump start for my IR, easily $40/hr-$50/hr. cheaper than any Sierra model dual in my area.

Sorry I jumped in again however I'm totally blown away and could resist. I'm sure it did work out fine. You could have got 50 hours anywhere else for that price. ATP is a great program, but not for time building. Let me understand correctly. You each paid $100 an hour for a 172 or $100 total for both? If it was $200 a hour I can understand why we are headed for a pilot shortage.

$100/hr for the airplane (172/SP), fuel, and a CFII since I didn't have an IR at the time. All dual received, no splitting anything. That's the only way ATP builds time in the Cessna.

The mom & pop shop I rent from charges $145/hr for a 172SP.

Instructor's another $45-$65/hr.

Just sayin'. I hear stories about $45/hr 172s, but I've never seen it. Cost of fuel + % of overhaul alone is significantly higher than that.

So $100/hr dual for a 172SP doesn't sound like a bad deal to me! For that matter, my seminole time at ATP was just over $300/hr dual... for a brand new seminole in pretty great shape. It came with all the sim time I could eat, free written tests, and some other goodies. Never did get a shirt, though. :>
By comparison, the 1979 Duchess I rent is $288/hr solo.

So really, people who say that ATP is 'extremely expensive' leave me rather baffled. ATP is a -very- streamlined organization, and as you might imagine, they seem to cut costs mostly by risk management, good planning, and careful cost control... but frankly I still feel like I got a bargain doing my commercial multi there, and I'd like to think that anyone who keeps their eyes open and understands what they're getting could do much worse. I've even considered going to the SAC ATP to do an IPC, since I'm coming up on it. I probably won't, but I wouldn't even consider it if I felt that they didn't have value.

PS. I really like the place I rent, so don't get me wrong. They're not the most expensive in the area, by far ... though not the cheapest, either.

My bad I thought he was paying $200 an hour. You can split for $50 a hour though. I went to ATP for a add on and thought it was the best deal. Like you said all the free sim cuts down on flight training. I would not time build only because I would split for 1/2 that cost. My only issue with ATP Pro program is it moves so fast and a lot of information is left out. Not that you need all that other BS knowledge however I don't believe you get the full GA experience of learning to fly at ATP. My friend conducting IOE at his airline said 2 ATP recent hires couldn't even read the meter and TAF. He couldn't believe he had to explain how to read it. I'm happy with only doing my add on with them. But for the money the do offer a great product with all that multi time.
