ATP Prep

Figure it is about time to knock that written out of the way... anybody have a preference on study guides?

ATP written is good for the normal 2 years unless employed by a 121 operation, then it's indefinite, correct? So for someone like me sitting at a whopping 280 hours...probably best to hold off on taking it for a while?

Not quite right. You can use an expired ATP written to obtain your ATP if it is part of your upgrade training to Captain. However, if you are an airline FO, and decide to get an ATP rating from a flight school, the expired written is not valid.

I've also used the Sheppard Air program about 2 years ago. Too bad the software expire after a certain time, unless it changed. I could really use it right now to prep for an interview.

Can you still use a username/password to just download the software, if so would anyone be willing to help me out and allow me to download the software?

You can call them and ask him. I think they make arrangements for those that want to use it for something like you are wanting to do.

So if I were to take it now (215TT) and pass it, would it give me some points in an interview with a 121 or 135 gig if it had expired by then?

I would just chill. The only reason I did it now (@750TT) is because of my degree. If you really need to get it done in a hurry for some reason (interview) you can do it in a couple days with the software.

Doubt it would be worth the paper it was printed on, unless it was valid when you do your interview. JMO

That being said, if you do manage to get hired with an expired written test report, you can still use it when you finally do your captain upgrade. (At least for Part 121, don't know about Part 135).
