as of now i already have my PPL & just about 1 year of college completed
right now i am looking into the ATP program among other choices
(possibly a 4 year college i.e. embry/FIT/UND)

i was just looking for insight as to which location is better
PHX or JAX
whats the area is like...the program...etc. anything about either of them

or if anyone has anything to say about embry or the other 4 year flight schools would be really helpful

thanks!

Based on my experiences at both of those locations, I think there are those who would agree with me that PHX is the better of the two choices.

But what do I know, I went to Riverside :D

Yea, Riverside above all :D:D:D

But PHX is a good location. Lots of growth going on there. Basically everything Jacksonville has, but without the higher ups from Jacksonville, or the snobbyness that people seem to get from going there.

But what I would REALLY suggest is to get your degree while working on your certificates. I personally dont suggest flying colleges since people seem to come out with a nice chunk of debt, and you may as well get a degree in something other than aviation.

I went through the ATP ACPP, but now Im freaking out about how Im going to get my degree. I wish I didnt waste 4 years of my life after high school.

I really liked the PHX location back when I went through the program, but I heard the place has changed a lot since then. I did all my training in Jax. PPL-> MEI, as well as instructed private pilots. Jax is fun too. Its very busy, and its fair to say you get the best training there. But its a lot more intense. I am sure you'll be fine at both, but the safer bet is phx.

But my suggestion would be to finish off college wherever you're at, and work on your private pilots license on the side. Then after you get your degree go to ATP. Enjoy college, it'll be the best time of your life.

why phx over jax thou. wouldnt jax offer more instrument conditions?
is phx a nicer facility?

is there more things to do in phx outside of the ATP than jax?

Yes, Jacksonville will have more instrument conditions. But lets see the pros and cons that I can come up with.

PHX Cons:
-No real IFR weather.
-You HAVE to wear business casual everyday since they have a manager.
PHX Pros:
-Big location
-Lots of planes
-Maintenance Facility
-Not Jacksonville
-You will probably get to go all the way to Florida for your XCs and probably up north to Sacramento.
-They have the RJ course so you wont have to go anywhere different for that.
-Seemed like a very nice area when we would fly down there.

JAX Cons:
-People always seem to be stuck up.
-Big wigs are around, so everyone is always worried.
-Apartments seemed out of whack. When I went down there on XCs they had 6 people in a 4 person apartment and people would come and go as they please some people staying for a night, some for weeks. They have so many apartments its hard to keep all of it together.
-It just didnt look like it would have been a fun experience.
-XCs you only seem to go as far west as Texas and as far north as Richmond.
JAX Pros:
-Clouds.

I didnt go to either location. But being in RAL you get to know the PHX location well and know the people down there.

Hey, is this who I think it is, nah......Reveal yourself.

Haha, he likes to remain inconspicuous. But he outs himself in some threads. I remember on my 302 ride...

ME: Yea, have you heard about jetcareers.com?
CFI: ::chuckles:: yea, Im on there
ME: oh cool. yea there is some guy named SIUAV8R on there who has to be from Riverside. He is always talking about the location. Do you know who it is..?
CFI ::laughs alot and keeps quiet for a minute:: Yea, thats me.

I'd go for PHX. Phoenix is a way better place than Jacksonville. Realistically, you're going to be stuck there for 3-5 months, you might as well be in a place you enjoy. I love the Phoenix area. YMMV.

When I met Amorris, he was in the middle of blasting JetBlue and Skybus pilots in his private ground class. I knew right away he was from JC.
