ATP, Just signed my life away....

Hello all – first time poster here….

Just signed up for the ATP ACPP, starting in Jan.
Been looking into all the schools: FSI, DCA, Ari-ben etc, but figured ATP was the best choice for me. (actually first heard about/suggested to me by my old college roommate who was an FSI instructor at the time…)

Sooo, just wanted to say thanks for all the insightful postings I’ve been reading on JC the past month (fortunately my current job allows me to surf the web all day /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) – helped to confirm my decision.

-Thanks

PS – just wish the price was still the $32K it was when I first started looking at ATP /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seeing as I'll be in the program Jan --> March, I was thinking a nice sunny southern location would be cool... but Manassas is as far away as the g/f would let me go! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Naaahh it'll be cool, went there for my interview, nice people/nice facilities, plus my aforementioned friend will be flying out of Dulles for Air Wisconsin by that time and my brother lives in DC (not that I'll have much time for extra-curriculars).

I was thinking of heading to JAX, thinking it might be better for getting hired (being around the guys who run the show) but Jim said it didnt matter, they mainly base it on the local instructors, dispatchers etc. reccomendations...

Can't wait! looking forward to some twin engine action....

You will have a great time. why are you waiting until jan to start?

A few reasons:
1) I'm only at like 45+ hours right now, just finished my last solo XC yesterday, still pre-private, so I've got some more flying to do.
2) I've got a couple of weddings to go to this fall (one that I'm in).
3) My current job pays pretty well = smaller loans for me.
4) I can enjoy the upcoming football season /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
5) I plan to get my writtens out of the way before I start.
6) I may have signed up a little early, but I wanted to lock in the price before it possibly goes up again (with oil getting close to $50/barrel - I could see that happening)

An FYI to those thinking of signing up for ATP: once you set your start date - you can move it up no problem, but if you push it back you'll lose the $1K deposit.

Best reason of all!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Eagles fan??? Let's hope not /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Congratulations on the wedding, I myself just got married this past July. I take it she's very supportive of your flying ambitions.

Yes, big Eagles fan! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif and you? Redskins? Steelers?

Too bad we keep losing a key player each pre-season game, Buckhalter is the latest victim out for the season /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The wedding "I'm in" is one of my brothers (I'm a groomsman).

Congrats on your wedding, I've been getting a little pressure from the g/f, but she is supportive of the flying and career change, which is cool.....

Big Redskins fan! Season tix holder as of this year . . . signed up on the waiting list 4 years ago.

My bad for assuming it was your wedding. That's a good thing that the g/f is supportive.

ATP in Manassas?

Well, I'm a huge Clinton Portis fan ...he's my fantasy football keeper, so I'll be rooting for him. Don't mind if he scores 3TDs and rips off 200 yds vs the Eagles... as long as the Eagles still win /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm a big VaTech fan too, actually bought a Marcus Vick jersey last year /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

Yep, ATP Manassas in a few months and you?

Just received my box of study material last night, man was it big and man was it heavy, too afraid to open it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/insane.gif

That is so rockin'! Flying the C-5 ... man, that would be a dream come true. Congrats on getting the slot! If you don't mind, I might PM you with some questions sometime. I'm very interested in flying for the ANG/AF Reserve.

Nice, I think a guy who went to my highschool is now flying the C-5.

Are you based out of Dover? I flew into Delaware Airpark (33N) on Sunday.

live in Martinsburg, WV . . . I was born and raised in Dover, most of my family still lives there so the few times I have flown home I've flown into DE Airpark (33N)

I'm w/ an Air National Guard unit over here . . . ended up over here cause this is where I went to college.

33N was a tough one to spot, cut out of the trees... (didnt help that my GPS shut down about 10 miles out) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

kept looking right of the highway (Rte 13?) ...1,000 ft threshold on a 3,000 ft runway?... that was fun too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/spin2.gif

Yea, the first time I flew there was on my long solo x-country for my Private certificate. I stopped up at Summit (EVY) to call my parents and let 'em know I was about 10 mins out . . .

. . . I know, why not just fly there, kinda waste to stop 10 mins out . . . but I mapped my route home to stay north of the ADIZ which guided right there, and I've driven by Summit before and thought it would be cool to fly into it as well.

ANYHOW, on my way down from Summit to 33N, I had difficulty as well, it was at night, and luckily I know DE like the back of my hand, I was just looked down at Rt 13, saw the shopping center at S. Smyrna and knew it wasn't far off my two 'o clock, saw the beacon, and home I was.

It was just as difficult coming in the second time during the day w/o the rotating beacon to help find it.
