ATP INSTRUCTORS

No. You are confusing ATP with some other flight training organizations. The way things are moving now, instructors are being hired days or weeks after finishing the Career Pilot Program.
 
What percentage of people that go through the program are trying to get hired at ATP as in instructor and what percentage of those actually get hired to instruct there?

I know its probably impossible to answer that question correctly but does anyone have a ballpark?
 
I also hear that they tend to favor hiring people that went through their private pilot program too... Any truth to that?

ATP hires people from its private pilot graduates to instruct for its private pilot program. You have to have been through the program to teach it. (according to Rich Tillery last November) I havn't been there for months so that may have changed.

I don't know how that translates to career pilot instructors.
I'll keep you appraised, I just finished the program (no time to PPL to CFI/MEI/CFII) last week. Hopefully it will be a short wait.

Yes and no, its just gives you more options. Going thru the private pilot program you're eligible to teach it.
 
When I was in JAX interviewing I ask the same question:

I was told by a instuctor that about half of the ACPP grads do not apply for a ATP position becuase of the intial relocation (away from their famly) to JAX for a undetermined amount of time, lower pay and no benefits than their (student's) local FBO, etc. The other half who do apply are evaluated to see if they are ATP instructor material. I think, but don't quote me, about half (or less) from this half are choosen. But this is all dependent on student demand. If there is a surge in student enrollment then more instructors would be needed.

There are some non-monetary advantages for working for ATP. It just depends on the student's personal/family situation.

I don't know if going into ATP's PPL program gives you any advantange only to the fact that the ACPP instructors will know that you have been trained to ATP standards and know what to expect from their students when they arrive for the ACPP program.

Interesting! I would love to teach the private pilot course for a bit and then move over and teach the CPP after that. As far as the locations go, I would be willing to go to any of their locations pretty much.

I think I am finally getting a clear understanding of what my goal is.
 
From what Rich told me in January, if you are able to teach a few classes worth of the PPL program you will get a huge jump on your hours as the program tends to have more hours to fly off then the ACPP. However, they are single hours, not multi. Dunno if that is still the case.

Ideally, I would love instruct the private pilot course 3 or 4 months to build up that total time and then pad it nicely instructing the 90 day course till I am ready to move on. I imagine you would get alot more flying hours in by teaching the private than the CPP.

I think most people want to just get in and get to an airline ASAP. I actually want to be an instructor for a while and I think my target airline will be Horizon which requires more hours than most.

It's still a long way off but you gotta set a goal right?
