ATP-CTP any way to avoid it?

Hello Guys,

I have a quick question, I want to get my ATP written as soon as possible and I am aware of the ATP-CTP that I need to take before the written. I am trying to avoid spending 5k on it so I have a question.

My case is a bit different i guess, I have dual citizenship and when I had about 250 hours and flying as a CFI in the states I got lucky and got hired by a regional airline in Baja Mexico to fly EMB 145, now I have about 600 hours SIC on the ERJ. I received my training at CAE in Dallas Tx.

My question is, do I still need to take the ATP-CTP even if i already have the SIM time? (about 32 hours full motion sim) or can I waive that part of the training and save my self some money.

Also I am aware of the hour minimums for ATP however i graduated from ERAU so i can get the RATP.

Thanks for the help

You're probably going to have to pay the $5000 since the 10 hours of sim training is part of a required course, not just an experience requirement. What are you trying to do with the restricted ATP cert?

Pretty much every regional in the US is paying for (or putting on their own) CTP courses for newhires that need it.

Once you meet mins to get hired at the regional of your choosing, apply to the regionals. MOST regionals have an ATP-CTP course. Your written will then be paid for, and no headache to you trying to figure out how to get that written done.

Not only will the regionals pay for that CTP course, but there are a couple that will pay bonus to dudes with ERJ types. Might as well profit.

Thanks for the advice, basically I am an expat flying for a regional airline in Mexico, will this time count for anything if i decide to go back to the US?

He said he's currently flying for Baja Mexico, but he's worried about getting the written done to find an ATP job back in the states.

Yeah this is basically what is going on. I would like to get my ATP just in case I decide to go back to the US

Cool thanks for the info, I am ok with doing what is necesary and working hard to get where I want to be, I was just wondering if eventually when I want to get my ATP, all my jet experience would count for something.
