ATP Contracts

I currently live in Houston and I am thinking about attending ATP in Dallas for the 90 day Airline Career Pilot Program. I currently have zero time so I would goto Jacksonville first to obtain my PPL.

I was talking to a freind in Dallas who just finished his PPL with an FBO in North Dallas, he asked his instructor about ATP and the instructor told him that ATP requires that you sign a contract. According to the instructor the contract allows ATP to terminate you from the Career Pilot Program at anytime. Does anyone know if there is any truth behind this?

Partial truth. Either the student or ATP can terminate training at any time. No contract, at least according to the website.

Training Discontinuance & Refund Policy

It's simple and ethical: You or ATP reserves the right to terminate your training at any time throughout the course of the Airline Career Pilot Program, making you (or a designated lending source) eligible for a pro-rated refund which will be issued within 15 days following program termination.

ATP's refund policy quickly accommodates students who elect to discontinue the program for any reason. It is important to receive your refund in an expeditious manner so you can use the funds to continue your flight training at another school, repay a loan, or cover emergency needs.

ATP does not require you to sign a training contract, which serves no purpose other than to restrict your options should you ever become displeased with your training progress.

ATP is the only flight school/academy that offers this level of protection.

From my understanding (and I didn't do the PPL program) they have you sign the contract because the price they give you for the PPL program is much less then you would pay for similar amounts of time and instruction else where. They can do this because they are going to be making money on the 90 day part. They are trying to ensure that you don't do the PPL and then just leave. That said, I think that there are ways to get a refund if you have reasons for it.

If you bolt after taking the PPL program, you are charged a pro-rated price for the hours and instruction higher than what you would pay if you finished the program. Not sure about contracts involved.

TCV,
I'm an instructor at the ATP location in Dallas and am a gaduate of the career pilot program. I don't think its fair to say that you sign a "contract". I am in a rush now, but drop me a personal message with any questions you may have about Dallas and the program itself and I'll answer it ASAP. I'll be sure to include exactly what the paperwork entails if need be.

It's real simple...
1) If you dont want to continue the program, you can quit at any time and ATP gives you a pro-rated refund.

2) If ATP decides that they dont want you around, they can end your training at any time and they will give you a pro-rated refund.

That seems fair to me.

Additionally, if you are going into the Private program, they require the non-refundable deposit for the career pilot program to be made when you enter the private program. If you wash out of the Private program, you lose the deposit.

There is no "contract". It is simply ATP's policy.
