Atlas/Polar hiring

Management is pretty great, it's like a family environment. Pay is competitive especially with the low cost of living. CVG is great... moderate wx, scenic, and the beer is always cold.

Well that seals it! Sounds like my kind of place!

If I wanted to stay on the Cargo Airline side of things, would applying to Atlas be a good stepping stone toward FedEx or UPS (among others) in the future with experience?

I think so... I heard a couple people that went to those two companies, and some that have gone to the majors over the past 2-3 years... the new contract isn't so bad either and is actually very competitive, considering the CVG location... I'm sure the next contract will just get better... if someone ends up staying there for the next 3-4 years, they might end up just staying there for the rest of their career and it wouldn't be so bad I'm sure...

as far as the Polar side itself, it's mostly DHL flying so very little ad-hoc or supplemental; unlike Atlas... but still extensive international, ETOPS, and widebody experience... they tend to run the staffing on the low side (only 1 being hired right now), most shifts have 2 people on them but if one calls in sick, you're SOL unless they find someone that can work OT... i know the people that work on that side tend to like it though... with a relatively lower number of dispatchers, going up in seniority is easier, plus the opportunities for OT shifts (if you're into that) are widely present...

Thanks for the information. I currently work as a Cargo Agent (for a AA Cargo contractor) and just really like being on the Cargo side of the house. Are the duties of a dispatcher at a Cargo airline any different from a PAX Airline besides maybe more International and Wide Body stuff, as you mentioned?

I'm studying for my ADX and should have it in March 2018. Have to take the course after the busy holiday season is over because here in about a month I'll be slammed at work.

I'm sure this particular posting will be long since gone, but I do appreciate the insight you have given and will definitely keep what you have said in mind for future opportunities.

FYI you won't get into Atlas/Polar without experience. Need at least 135 and only about 10percent of their dispatcher came in without 121 experience. It's a mid level when it comes to dispatching the only ones that pay more than the atlas's or Jetblue's are the majors.

Plus you have to work with terrible pilots like myself:-)

when 20 people from one place apply for ONE open job it doesn't look too good. Those resumes go to the bottom of the pile.

The problem with hiring a lot of people from any one particular place is they bring all of their bad habits with them. It's like high school.

Who says if 20 apply from one place that you need to hire them all or that they have bad habits? Thats beyond incompetent management if they don't hire from a particular source because too many apply. It would be like mainline carriers saying we will only hire people off the street with no experience because there are too many applying from the regionals and internally and all have bad habits. Atlas management are insane if this is true.

Well Atlas management is insane. So who knows.
