ATC picking on the little guys :)

Thought this was pretty funny. We flew up to Orlando (MCO) to drop off a guy so he could catch a flight home. Keep in mind we're flying a Beech Duchess. Get ready to head back to Fort Pierce and they have us taxi into position on 18L while a 757 is holding short. We take off and get a little ways out and I hear the controller clear the 757 to take off stating, "Traffic is a Duchess that just departed...caution wake turbulance" Am I missing something or are they picking on the little guys? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Mate that is really common - flying 172s into LAX, 747, 767 have all been warned of our wake turbulance. I guess it is just habit, or required.

Sounds to me like a subtle joke directed at you guys. I know I just flew from PBI and saw two Cessnas 172s and a Beech Baron takeoff ahead of our 767 and we seemed to take off rather quickly after them. I seriously doubt the wake turbulence is a major issue from a plane like that.

I could be wrong, but I think the controllers have to say that ("caution wake turbulence) if they clear an aircraft for departure within x minutes (x miles?) of an earlier departure.

Either that or he is just so used to saying it that it is part of his clearance schtick.

Or he was making fun or your puny a$$ airplane. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/spin2.gif

Just having some fun, like when I report "Cessna 46439 heavy is a 152 10 miles south."

Sounds like they were picking on you. :P

Edit: Wow, 4 replies in a minute /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
