Official annoucement should be made within the next week. ASA will open a crewbase in IAD for 20 CRJ 200s. This is not growth flying, just prevention of further shrinkage. More details to come later.

Is this still coming from the flightinfo.com 'my friend heard from a CP in ground school' post? Or is this new?

Flightinfo, planebuzz, apc, Marcus.... Rumors rumor rumors and yes rumors..... Why would UAL want more CRJ200's again? And why would ASA get any additional flying when AWAC has all the ground handeling still for UAL Express? Until there's an official announcement you cannot really believe anything. Plus the post over on the othe forum was saying 20 planes and 30 crews? Something seems a little odd about that ratio....

And where are they rumored to be flying to out of IAD?

And if the rumors are true about a trial period, good luck. All Im going to say is.. its a good thing we can call our own times in on the Saab out of IAD, or it wouldnt be pretty. You can thank AWAC ground for that one.

Not sure if this has anything to do with anything, but they're hiring FAs according to their website.

Here's the rumor post...(don't shoot me for copy/pasting it)

According to SH, he was going to send out the email today but the lawyers said he needed to wait until a certain date. However, he told recurrent ground this:

ASA will operate approximately 20 crj200's out of IAD. The flying will begin as early as February. UAL was a bit skiddish because they didn't like ASA's performance numbers. The company was persuasive that ASA's performance was better than DOT numbers due to ATL ops. UAL is agreeing to a "trial" period of flying.

Scott said that we would base about 30 crews there to begin with. The rest of the pilots apparently will cycle through via common overnight cities I guess.

If the flying is successful, it should lead to lots more flying with some possible future 70 seat work. In addition, if things go well, there are also disussions about shifting some of SKYW out of ORD to DEN and establishing a future ASA base in ORD. (sharing SKYW's maintenance)

He also spoke of massive opportunities throughout the industry. Some due to the possibility of RAH angering their mainline customers with their recent purchases, the likely death of Mesa, and even other carriers.

This isn't me talking....this is just what he was yappin in RGT this week.

Enjoy

I think that's mainly because ASA treats their flight attendants like crap. Most of the ones I know are tired of being on reserve and looking to leave. That's my guess.

Kind of like Colgan hiring FAs every day of the week to replace the ones that end up quitting right after they realize it isnt 90% of what they thought it would be.

...or getting fired!i

BTW, not defending Colgan, but we're all told the good, the bad and the ugly about the career. Some individuals choose to ignore what they're told or think that rules and regulations they don't like don't have to be adhered to.

Apparently we made a couple 100% turnovers on hiring classes at Mesaba. They changed their recruitment story, gave it a more realistic view, and they are keeping more. We are still hiring for FA's while parking airplanes. It's a crap job and I can't believe no airline I've been at learns anything

In CRM class last week we kinda blasted the company's attitude toward the FA's for 15-20 minutes straight. With any luck the Mesaba reps sitting in the class will listen. Morons actually can't figure out why they've got ten's of FA's out on disability with ear problems and not a single pilot...

Treat FA's with respect and pay them a good wage and, who knows, maybe we'll save some bucks.

I hope its true. But I heard that EXACT (almost word for word) rumor in RGT way back in Feb 09. It came from two different sources, both the instructor and a check airman. So I have serious doubts. Nevertheless I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I just love how everyone is still counting on a mesa failure.... As if all these airlines would gain.... But I just dont know why UAL would want more 50 seat flying.... That just makes zero sense to me. And I highly doubt ASA is cheap??? Plus if you think ATL is bad with on time performance, I cannot imagine IAD would be any different? I've been in a few times with the Airways colors but its during the DEAD time.... If its anything like DCA/LGA/PHL I cannot imagine its any better then ATL which from the times I've been in and out know how to handle high traffic and do a great job getting you in and out...

Probably a lot like how when they've closed two KFC's in the city of Scottsdale, but they're still running ads looking for front counter help at the other stores! :)

True, but let's be honest, most of our f/a's are idiots. They get fired all the time for doing the stupidest things. (stealing liquor money for example)
