Arnold Palmer and aviation.

His Gulfstream Citation X's tail # is N1AP and he did a flyby the US Open at Oakmont shortly before he died. It was based at LBE which is his home town and the airport is named after him.

I flew with a guy at my place that flew for Palmer. Said he was one of the classiest dudes he’s ever met. He said he tried to carry his bags to the plane a couple of times and Palmer yelled at him. “If I can’t carry my own bags, I’m packing too much.” He had a lot of cool stories.

If you go to Latrobe (about an hour from home for me) Palmer's legacy is in many places there besides the airport. By many accounts, he was a humble man who really loved golf and was exceptional at it, but it didn't go to his head.

Met him during a Senior Tour event in Charlotte. Tried to convince me to leave CLT and come work at LBE.

Shaking his hand was like shaking the hand of a bear. Massive and strong as hell.

There's an old UAL promo film showing off their training center and he's in it in at least a couple spots.

Yeah Latrobe is very Palmer and Fred Rogers heavy :)

About a year or two ago, the airport authority in Pittsburgh began having local "celebrities"; local sports color commentators and heads of large businesses/universities, do the "Welcome Aboard" announcement on the between terminal train at PIT. To celebrate Fred Rogers this month, it starts off with the "ding-ding" from the Neighborhood Trolley from Mr. Rogers. Can't help but smile at that sound.

I showed my GF that vid and she goes "wow, they're almost as square as you and you're friends"....

That hurt....

Trying to get a good Arnold Palmer that's more unsweet iced tea than lemonade can be difficult, especially in a drive thru. It's my favorite drink, coffee, water and beer are perpetual second place runners. If you drink soda you shouldn't, it's not good for you.
And the literal ton of sugar in most lemonades are?
