This is a pretty broad question, but what is the Arlington location like? Planes, instructors, housing, weather, ect. As a person that is very interested in the ATP program, and who is from Texas, I was just curious whether or not to go out of state.

As an instructor in Arlington....we are pretty good. Arlington tends to have instructors that stick around for more than 3 months....so they know their stuff. Arlington is a "2000" base meaning we have almost all if not all 2000 and newer Seminoles. For housing the apartments are onsite and off site. You should call up the 800 number and schedule a tour. As for weather...its Texas....ya never know.

Hey stillageek,

I really liked the location, we stoped there a few times during our xcountry portion. The weather kind of ruined it though we even lost a day because we were surrounded by lines of thunderstorms, Texas in the summer time...

All I know about Arlington is that its like the hardest airport in the world to find at night if you never been there before. (dispatch broke their own rule by sending us there at night having never been there), Almost landed at the wrong airport that was like 1 mile away (Thank God for the 430 that night). Oh... and it took us like 30 mins of going through the Dallas jepp chart STAR's just to find the right STAR.

I thought the on-site housing was awesome though, no cars, taxi's, or transportation to worry about it, Its just a one min walk to and from school.

There is an airport 5 miles away. If in doubt going to an airport, shoot an approach! While on my cross countries even in VFR conditions I shot an approach into the airport to 1) have fun shooting various approaches 2) use all available information for maximum situational awareness. Arlington is kinda hard to find. I shot the GPS approach down to 200 above mins during a pop up storm two weeks ago. It was just past 11PM....dropped out of the clouds and started looking for the beacon.....the damn thing wasn't on! Medium intensity lights are useless in urban areas more than 2 miles out.....the lights around the airport drown them out.

Well, Ive got my interview set up for July 1 - I live in Kansas City so thought this location would be pretty close by if I needed to come home for any reason.

Does anyone know if weather in Texas is ok during the fall? If accepted I'm planning on attending in September for the 90 day fast trac. If the weather turns out to be not that great what other places are good in the fall / winter.

Thanks guys!

September is usually warm, but pleasant. October is just a cooler version of September. You should be able to get plenty of flying in. Feb-April is supposed to be the rainy season, but that has extended into June this year. You just never, ever know here.
