I don't believe we had any non-members at the IPA. Those so inclined always had an open door to become a management pilot. This was not a super rare occurrence. The present chief pilot was hired as a line pilot. I always laughed at the company in house press releases when a line guy was "promoted" to management. Right...you can keep that "promotion".

They made it sound like you couldn’t be a line pilot and non member when I went through Indoc 2yrs ago. Honestly idk why anyone would not want to be a member. In the past moment I’ve written 3 event reports in relation to fatiguing pairings. The company will probably use them to pick up their dogs poop, but In addition to the plethora of other pros of a union idk what I would’ve done other than complaining to the person next to me if I was a non member.

The FAA is an open shop (ie right to work bs). You'd be surprised how many non-members are represented by natca. We have one in my bargaining unit at my current station, but at my last station we only had 10 of 15 BUEs paying their dues. Even ZNY where I started, and ZDC are 100%
