Anyone here fly gliders?

I've yet to see one float plane at HND. Maybe they are hiding up at VGT. Just remember no matter what we do its just another tool in the toolbox. Just that much more experience to help when you have a problem. Especially when the big fan out front quits!

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to solo a glider at age 15. It helped in transitioning to powered flight and, because of that experience, I was never shy about slipping an airplane to get down. If you have the money I say go for it!

yeah, I'm goign to start a "glider fund" up.

I almost did my glider lisence there at New Garden, but ended up going to Kutztown. I soloed when I was 14, but never flew a glider again after my first three solo tows. Mainly because the nearest airport with gliders is a two hour drive. I'm hoping to finish the lisence next month if I get the chance. The only thing that'll teach you better stick and rudder skills is tailwheel flying. Glider flying will make you a better pilot and teach you a lot about flying. The only downside is with those big spoilers you can get lazy and not really worry about being to high! Is the school through your FBO?

Alex.

New Garden is a great field to fly gliders. I'm hoping I can join this year or next. I want to improve stick and rudder skills and expand my flying addiction/love/obbesesion. Fly up to New Garden then:) I also can't wait to fly tail wheels. The grob has huge spoliers. I dont think the club is through the FBO, its the Brandywine Soaring association

brandywinesoaringassociation.org

hows the ME goin?

To take off on a tangent...

What kind of benefits from gliding could I expect as an ASEL pilot? I'd love to do some gliding, but I just can't justify the cost/driving (closest place is about an hour away).

I'm thinking once I get my CFI checkout, if I have any money left over, it might be better to take some aerobatics/tailwheel instead of gliding.

Your thoughts?

the benifits of gliding flying would be to improve stick and rudder, learn about the sky (ie. winds, thermals, drafts, and moutain waves), and learn some power off landings. Personally, if you could take some tailwheel, that would be more worth it to me, I've heard thats better stick and rudder. Aerobatics would be just fun! If you have the time and money, go for it.

hey, in my first post on my thread i said it would be $2,000. wrong, more like $3,000.
