I met Frank Stoner at Chino Airport in 2010 and like everyone, immediately liked him. I was happy when Frank relocated into a hangar across from mine, he was always upbeat and just a fun guy to be around. Frank and I had lunch at and hiked Catalina Island several times. I burned a lot of extra fuel making sure I always caught his Mooney on the 52 mile flight, Catalina to Chino. Frank lived across the street from the airport and almost always showed up riding his bike.

Frank was forced into retirement when the 62 yo rule still existed. He went to work for Boeing training South Korean 747 pilots, one of his specialties was upset recovery in the 747. Frank would be in South Korea for 4 to 6 weeks then back home for a month or so, I always looked forward to seeing his hangar door open when he was back in town.

I learned yesterday Frank was a killed in South Korea, a pedestrian hit by a truck. Great guy, he will be missed by many.
