Anyone ever fly GA in Ukraine?

I had a second interview today and awaiting yet a third interview soon for a Defense related job in Odessa, Ukraine.

The position will keep me there 6 - 12 months at first. So, since I'm just a month or so away from finishing my Instrument, I would like to keep flying (Don't want to take a year off).

I've flown on some unpleasant looking turboprops over there, but I have never seen any Single Engine Aircraft at the Simferopol Airport, and I didn't remember any at Boryspil.

So as the title says, has anyone had any experience flying GA aircraft in Ukraine? Know what the requirements are? Costs and availability in the Crimea region?

I know I'm reaching here, just thought maybe........

I live in Moscow. There is very limited GA activity here. Mostly rich guys who stay in the vicinity of the airport. They have certs called Lechik Lubetel, similar to our sport pilot but they fly twins if they want. They can't do any cross countries as that is considered outside of the vicinity of the airport and one has to be an air carrier to do that out here. My understanding is Ukraine has similar rules but they are trying to make themselves more European. They are apart of Euro Control but they lack in many areas. I can put you in touch with a friend of mine who is a Ukrainian pilot in Kiev. He may have more info on this. One thing to remember also that the airspace is pay to play. There are landing, handling, and navigation fees every time you pop up on radar. Can get a little pricey. Let me know if you would like the info. Good luck.

BTW...Odessa is one of my favorite cities. Love layovers there!

That would be great if you could put me in touch. I'll PM you.

I've never been to Odessa. Just Kiev, SImferopol, Evpatorya and Yalta......Then St. Petersburg. Spent 3 weeks there and loved it. Nothing like a sidewalk cafe on Nevsky Prospect in July! Never seen shorter skirts anywhere :)

It's Ukraine (The not required since 1995)

Zhuliyany airport in Kyiv has GA aircraft. I have also seen a few at Odesa, L'viv, and Rivne. Infact, I almost took a flight in a Yak 52 in L'viv. :)
And If I can remember the name, there was also a flight school in Kyiv that had a Cirrus among other aircraft.

I'm on vacation in Spain until the 24th. I will send you the info when I get back to Moscow. Take care.
