Anyone at Gulfstream?

No, not the B-1900 operator, obviously. Saw a job posting for a production line test/demo pilot and I applied. Not sure I'll even get a call, but I was just curious if anyone here works or has worked for them, either in flight ops or otherwise. I've read decent reviews on working there, but just looking for some more insight.

How many years did you serve in the Air Force?

There is some non-military in demo but just the fact there there are ex-military pilots with thousands of hours of G time out there, the deck is stacked against you.

Ehhh, not really. There are quite number of Gulfstream demo pilots who are not from a military background. There are also quite a few who are. Best way in the door there is through the parts airplane, which is an Astra ( G-100 ) I believe.

In regards to Boeing, the test pilots are certainly almost all ex-military but the Flight Training Airplane folks and the new Purchased Service Pilots ( contract ) are not. In the PSP group it is mostly civilian. Mind you it is very high time civilian, but civilian none-the-less.

Thanks for the insight. Sounded like it might be an interesting job and I'm open to a change from slugging it out in my little RJ, plus my wife and I are looking to relocate south. I have no Gulfstream time, but I figured 5500 hours in the EMB couldn't hurt.

Most of the guys I know who have done testing and deliveries have been former military, one Marine Corps pilot I remember in particular. Even the delivery MX guys seem to all have military background. That being said, all top notch and professional people to work with even in my limited capacity.

How did you get to know the pilots there? Just curious...

ran into one of them a few years ago, he said test pilot school was what they desire...

Go to airshows where they have static displays. Talk to the pilots. Dubai is perfect. I always go to the Gulfstream chalet and have a chat. Then I go out to the flight line and hang out in the aircraft for awhile. This year I spent about 40 minutes in the G650 flight deck then had lunch in the chalet ( invitation only )......... and yes, the G650 flight deck is cool.

Thanks. Great idea. NBAA was good to meet other Gulfstream pilots, but nobody from anywhere close to my area, and I didn't meet any of their pilots.

I've definitely been seeing more and more of the 650's flying around. We saw one land in Samedan, Switzerland a few days ago, but we were on a "quick turn".

We have a resource or 2 on here that do that now. I won't put their names out there, but great folk with straight civilian background

We have people that fly for Gulfstream on here? I did not know that. I understand we have some test pilots and factory pilots on here, but I did not know people worked for SAV on here. Thanks for the info.

I don't know if anyone works in SAV, but I wouldn't be surprised. Also, I'm going to go on a branch here and say that the part 25 test community is small.

Keep watching the Gulfstream website if you're truly interested in a job there. They have posted 5 pilot positions in the last 3-4 months. 2 of those were large cabin test pilot, but the other 3 were demo/domestic CA jobs in the mid cabin equipment. From what I understand, they update the careers page every Thursday.
