AHHH! Isola Bella is not worth your perdiem yeah it looks GREAT on paper, but I stayed there 2 weeks and my headboard (attached to the wall) fell on my head in the middle of he night, they never fixed my front door lock they never gave my roomate and I our laundry cards, the gym is a hike depending on what part of the property you're on, the office staff is incompitent to say the least I was in the office every day usually more than once and STILL nothing got done and it's in a crappy part of town.

I know none of the FAA recomended housing options are the greatest nor are they in the best parts of OKC, but Apple Tree, Spanish Gardens, and Walnut Gardens seem to be the favorites of Academy students, Walnut has a weekly social where they supply a keg for I believe two hours. There are alot of options, but those are the most widely reccomended, btw DO NOT go in expecting anything really nice we hae a woman here like that and she's complained about everything as if she expected her stay here to be the equivalent of staying at the ritz for three months :panic:

With the new per diem set, it doesn't matter if it is would the cost or not, if you are under the housing allowance because they are paying for it on a Gov't card and you do not get the different. This program is not optional, the exceptions are for those that are living at a place that does not take credit cards (private rents off craigslist etc.), those that are staying with friends/family, or those that living in a 50 mi. radius of the MMAC and are commuting to work.

That being said, I am sure there are nicer places and areas than the FAA housing (Walnut & Spanish Gardens, and the Apple Tree) however I am happy with my apartment at Walnut Gardens, it is tailored to the FAA and you are surrounded by only FAA employees as tenants, so you don't have to worry about everything being over crowded.

On a personal note, OKC sucks in the winter for us California people, it is cold, windy (I'm used to the wind, but still) and ice... was ist das? (I know I know, using German to ask what ice is.... maybe only I get the humor), but I mind go to the Botanical Gardens this weekend.
