Any law enforcement pilots?

Are there any law enforcement pilots such as State, Local, DEA, FBI, Customs that post here?

Seems like an that would be an interesting profession aside from the airlines.
 
Most state and local law enforecment pilot were hired from within thier local departments.

I'm told that the feds ocasionlly hire pilots, but those jobs are super competitive.
 
That's what I'm told.

I spoke with a Louisiana State Trooper Recruiting office and they said they hire qualified trooper pilots internally. They can apply for a pilot slot after two years road service.

The DEA has a lot of planes. I'm not sure of their requirements, but if it is the same as US Customs they are:

Total flight time: 1500 hours
Pilot in Command: 250 hours
Multi-engine Aircraft: 500 hours
Instrument (10 Actual): 75 hours
Night Flying: 75 hours
Flying Time (last 12 months): 100 hours

My father's been flying for the state police for nearly 30 years, anything specific you want to know? He had to have an Airplane PPL and five years on the road, but those were the only requirements.

What kind of aircraft do they use?

Georgia State Patrol has a five year requirement. You also have to have a commercial license on your own.

That's still the only requirement. They fly four Bell 407s (they get a new one anually), a King Air, a 182, and a Twin Commander. The last two are basically used for training flights for pilot's in the section working on upgrading thier ratings. The King Air is used to fly prisioners, other troppers, and the governer around. The 407s are used for law enforcement and medevac flights.
