ANR headsets...

To any medically inclined people:
I was wondering...with ANR headsets would the ANR play a factor in preventing hearing loss?

As I see it...3 things could be the case:
1) ANR does help prevent hearing loss

2) ANR doesn’t help prevent hearing loss, it is only the Passive noise reduction in the headset that would help

3) ANR hurts hearing loss being that more noise is actually created in the headset from the anti-noise.

Does anyone know which is the case?

Thanks!

Any noise that doesn't make it to your ear is a good thing, and ANR prevents noise for reaching your ears. The passive blocks it, and the ANR produces a reciprocal wavelength to some noise to eliminate it. Basically, on the wavelength diagram, the ANR produces peaks where there are valleys, thus cancelling the noise out. It's still there, your ear just doesn't "hear" it since it never vibrates the bones in your ear.

There are cases of some people that can't wear them. I have a friend that can't wear ANRs since the electronics that do the wizard stuff gives him headaches.

And since it is those vibrations that cause hearing loss, ANR does help prevent it.
