Another regional buys a major...

All the responsibility none of the authority
With KLM cityhopper getting everyone's panties in a wad running E190s (even though they ran F100s for years before), now LuxAir is into it.

They bought a 747 operation...I wonder if the CargoLux pilots will get the very top of the list?

Luxair, Luxembourg’s regional airline in which Lufthansa AG has a 13 percent stake, is now Cargolux's majority shareholder. The restructuring move follows the sale of a 33.7 percent shareholding in Cargolux by the liquidator of SAirlines – part of the SAir Group that collapsed following the grounding of Swissair in 2002.

yes, yes...I know I'm fiesty, but I don't know why...

Interesting indeed. I will say, IF RAH continues to run E190's between DAY-MKE with 20 people on the plane it is going to be short lived.....

SFO's Midwest team claims the 190 SFO-MCI flight has never gone out full while the Skywest flight oversells almost everyday(I still think that route should have gone to United). Plus they told me the 712 and MD-80s before it did pretty well on the route. It gives me some hope that maybe..just MAYBE the buisnessmen who fly Midwest know a regional took over, meaning the old Midwest is gone for good, and said "Screw this" and went to other carriers. But that may be putting way too much faith in the flying public.

CRJ-700 to MCI. Not a day goes by a buisness man doesn't board the plane kind of pissed and say "You know I was on a 757 from MCI to DENVER yesterday, right? This is a joke last time I fly United to SFO". I just respond "I hear ya partner."

Are you hoping that RAH goes out of business?

NOt to rain on the "regional airlines are evil parade", but Luxair isn't a "regional airline" in the american sense of the word in how we describe all the airlines flying around little jets in other peoples paint schemes. Luxair is more the national airline of Luxembourg flying 737s and ERJs, that only flies in the "region of Europe" hence the term "regional airline".

Kinda like how "regional airlines" here fly only in the "region" of N. America, Mexico and the Caribbean?

Everyone regional pilot hopes every other regional other than their own goes out of business and if they say otherwise they are lying. I have more respect for those that admit it rather than the phoney people who claim we're all brothers but get mad as hell when one of those "bottom feeder regionals" get more flying.

If there were a way to get JO on the street without shutting Mesa down, that would be the best. You might not want to use terms like "everyone." You're painting a broad stroke. It would be like me saying "Every Skywest pilot wants to staple the ASA guys to the list." You, based on your posts and comments here, would likely be 100% for it. Many others.....not so much.

The next gen 700s are nice, but, pleeease, a 4hr oversold flight on a -700 is just plain stupid. The second you need an alternate half the revenue gets booted. I guess I'll never understand airline logic.

The logic is simple. You are cheaper than mainline and they don't give a damn about the customers that are bumped for extra fuel. They know that the customer will be back if they have the lowest price online.

thats not what he's saying, cityhopper bought luxair, not vice versa.

am i right?

I don't wish any airline to go out of buisness, I wouldn't wish any pilot to be out on the street. I'm just hoping that maybe this whole "lets turn YX into a regional" thing doesn't have a good outcome for the company, making it less likely to happen elsewhere, not because I hate RAH.

On a normal day the 66-seater CR7 will be booked to maybe 67, and weight restricted to 57 with crazy alternates. Since the route has started its either been thunderstorms or snowstorms(or so opperations claims) at least every 2 or 3 days. They can't make money like that. If they can, it can't be much.

RAH buys Pinnacle and flys international feed for Southwest.

You heard it here first.

City hopper is wholly owned by KLM. They bought no one. The thread starter presumably only mentioned them because of the 190 controversy.

As OTP said, Luxair is not a regional in US sense or understanding of the term. They are a national airline with their own brand.

Do we get RAH's current contract? Cause it's a lot better than what we have now......

Honestly, though, who'd want us? Rumors around here are we're gonna be forced by Delta to take Comair, and my response is "With what? We blew all our cash on auction rate securities and are struggling to make the huge debt payment coming due first quarter next year."
