Hi all, I just registered last night and I wanted to say hello and congrats to Doug for such an awesome sight! Also to all of you that are offering up your advice day in and day out...it is very useful and totally addicting! My days are suffering from being glued to these forums till 2 a.m. every morning

I may be the least experienced aviator on this board, but I am gaining some good knowledge from all of you. Anyone having suggestions for the best route to go for training in the Phoenix area (Doug?) I would really appreciate the advice. Being 30 and still needing to finish up my bachelor's degree, this field seems a bit intimidating, but I won't let that make me lose sight of pursuing my passion.

A good option for training in PHX? There's quite a few PHX-area CFI's that'd be more than happy to talk to ya!

Welcome, by the way!

First off, welcome! As for the training in the Phoenix area, I'm currently living in Phoenix and working on my Certified Flight Instructor at Stellar Airpark in Chandler. I started out at PanAm at the Deer Valley Airport, which did not work for me... and ended up down in Chandler. After PanAm, I looked around at 6 different places to do flight training, and felt that Angel Air, www.flyangelair.com, fit me the best. I liked the instructors more than other places in the valley, and also the oldest plane they fly is a 1999 model Cessna 172... so that was appealing. However, it does cost a lot more renting 2002-2003 model cessna 172SP's then most other places I looked at. It pretty much comes down to personal preference, and also how much you're willing to commute (I drive 40 miles each way). If you have any questions on training in Phoenix, private message me.... or post questions here!

Welcome ... there's plenty of good places around the valley. Just stay away from those two big scools that start with P and W.

Nah, seriously you just need to check out as many as you can (even W & P) and pick the one you like the best. Personally I like smaller, "non-academies" but that's just me.

Been here for three years ... been doing all my flying out of FFZ. We (brother, father and I) have an aircraft tied down there and we hire out a CFI ... course now that I'ma CFI I'm lookin for work!
