This should take away much of the mystery about annuals.

Did you know?

You as a Private Pilot can return a aircraft to service after an annual depending on the discrepencies found.

You don't have to fix everything the IA found.

Low compression alone is not reason to replace a cylinder on a Contenitial engine.

The owner, not the mechainc or inspector, is responsible for maintaing the aircraft in an airworthy condition.

Neither did I before I got my A&P.

I shudder to think how many cylinders have been needlessly replaced on big-bore Continental engines because they measured slightly less than 60/80 during a compression check. More than 20 years ago, TCM issued service bulletin M84-15 that makes it clear that a cylinder with compression readings in the high 40s or low 50s can be perfectly airworthy,

I had to find the SB to prove to one of the instructors at A&P school that this was correct!
