Amniotic Band Syndrome

I'm going to pull back the shades a little and hopefully educate a few.

Amniotic Band Syndrome occurs when the fetus becomes entangled in fibrous string-like amniotic bands in the womb, restricting blood flow and affecting the baby’s development.

Amniotic Band Syndrome can cause a number of different anomalies depending on which body part(s) is affected.

If a band wraps tightly around a limb, the limb can actually be completely amputated. The baby may be born missing fingers, toes, part of an arm or leg. If the band is across the baby’s face it can cause cleft lip and palate. In a large number of cases the baby is also born with clubfeet. ABS is also the cause of numerous miscarriages, such as when a band becomes wrapped around the umbilical cord.

ABS occurs randomly. It’s not genetic, nor is it caused by anything a pregnant Mom did or didn’t do during pregnancy. To date, no prenatal factors have been associated with ABS. It is extremely unlikely that ABS will affect a future pregnancy.

My right foot and both hands were affected by ABS. I'll post some pictures.

Now understand that I'm not looking for sympathy because this does not define me. I do however believe that my struggles and experiences growing up with these differences has molded my personality. I admit that I have little sympathy for the victim mentality and I'm unbelievably stubborn because I was told "You can't do......" my whole youth. I probably even have a chip on my shoulder.

Anyways. Here's a couple pictures. Enjoy. I'll spare you the foot.

Look into The Lucky Fin Project too. Great lady and her daughter doing great things for kids.

I'm a huge fan of people who say "Oh yeah?? Watch me!" Not enough people like that in this world. Too many people want to be wall flowers and just get by. Many go to great lengths to assert status quo and question those who test barriers.

I used to train kali with a guy with no forearms. I you not, he hit hard! Joint locks were rough too because a lot of the joints just weren't there.

Nick Newell was dominate last night in his first round win and his debut in WSOF. He was the XFC Champion so despite the jump up in class he still won easy. Jackass Dana White won't allow him into the UFC.

He's extremely impressive, but in the world of mma he has yet to beat anyone that would warrant him getting into the UFC. Look at Edson Barboza and any of the many other guys who had amazing records before getting into the UFC that didn't get a shot despite good records, mainly because of the level of their competition.

Then again there have been several Cody McKenzies so I can see what you mean, but if he keeps this streak up he'll end up there soon enough. His disability has opened some doors for him, but with the UFC it will probably be a bit of a hindrance, not because Dana is a "jackass", but because he has a "gimmick" and while he has a very impressive streak, he hasn't beaten a "name" yet and that's not the angle the UFC is looking for with the excessive amount of fighters they already have on the roster.

Coincidentally Nick left XFC because he couldn't get a former UFC fighter matchup, and while you make the case he made a jump in class, WSOF is a BRAND NEW promotion and his opponent had been busting his balls in smaller promotions as well just like him, against no name competition before this fight. Not like he beat a guy who'd fought in a big show before.

Anyway, sorry I didn't have anything to add to the rest of the conversation, its just that I know MMA and don't think Dana's jackassness or lack thereof has anything to do with Nick not being in the UFC. I know not even Nick expects himself to be there at this point in his career.

The guy he just beat was on Ultimate Fighter 13 from what I hear. Not that it means much but he wasn't fighting some bum that nobody has heard of. He got an invite for the Ultimate Fighter so he must have warranted some attention. I'm fine with it though, I have been in Nick's shoes my whole life and been told what I am "able" to do by plenty of people. He will continue to prove them wrong.

I remember when you described yourself as a" 6 ft 280lb dirty trucker missing three digits" on the this forum years ago. And of course I never asked why or how... but I always assumed you were hauling a load from Matamoros to Kansas City for a large sum of cash when some of the cargo went missing, and then this happened...
