Im sure a lot of you have seen this job posting already. But the question I had is simply if anyone knows about the Op down there in P.R. Whats the run like? How is it living in Aguadilla? Ive been to San Juan, and I know these two locations will differ significantly, but anyone have any first hand experience?

Thanks guys

Yeah... I used to do the runs that they are taking over.... it will be just an out and back to either Barbados or St. Lucia... Aguadilla is a nice place to live as long as you don't mind the Puerto Rican lifestyle. The difference between SJU and BQN is night and day... quite a culture shock if you aren't ready for it... not to be a debbie downer but if you don't know exactly what you are getting yourself into I would think long and hard about this job opportunity.... it isn't all peaches and cream down there but it can be a blast if you get in with the right crowd.

Hows your Spanish?

Its a Spanish language culture and the locals can tend to be a bit unforgiving if you don't speak Spanish, and its not that they can't speak english, because they can. Once they get to know you, its not such a problem. Plus most everything from traffic signs to the burger King drive through are in Spanish.

That being said, its a great place to live

Good Luck

Hey Guys,

Thanks much for the info. Belliot, just curious, who used to do those routes? And hows the flying down there, weather wise?

Yeah I have heard mixed things about heading down there. My main concern would be getting "stuck" down there. I think it would be nice for a year or so, but Im hoping it would be something that that I could spring board out of nicely. Either move up to Cap on the Chieftains or possibly on to another company doing something else.

Of course, with this market, who the heck knows...

And also for you guys that have lived there, is there any young folks there? I have been to several of the out lying towns east of SJU, but I wasn't really able to get a feel for the demographics! In other words, would I be drinking my beers with Mom and Pop out there in BQN? haha

Yeah... I worked for Merlin.... AMF is going to be putting a lot of friends out of a job when this goes through.... but thats life I guess...

WX wise it is hot as all heck during the summer time and as fall drifts by be ready for the hurricanes.... I will be honest with ya... I dang near put my stuff in for the position but I would be worried about getting stuck there as I know they want someone who is either local or willing to stay there.... remember you may have to quit if you want out of the base if no one else wants to move there.
There are plenty of young people there... there are two colleges within ten minutes drive of the airport.... your only problem will be interaction with said young people unless you speak spanish and even then it can be a difficult proposition unless they know you. Let me know if you have any other questions.... BQN has pretty good surfing and snokeling/scuba if you are into that.

Hey Belliot,

Thanks again for the info. How about living options? What city were most of your pilot buds actually living in? Were they shackin up together, or is it cheap enough there to have your own place? And do those citys around there have most of the basic stores/shops/medical stuff you need?

Uhhh.... you probably aren't going to be able to live by yourself... unless they have a new policy concerning per diem it would be a stretch to be on your own. Look, once you get down there you will need a car.... not a motorcycle... because everything is pretty spread out. Unlike the US things are not organized like you and I are accustomed to... there arent any real defining borders seperating one city from the next... the guys that I know down there are all CA's and can afford to live by themselves/with their families.... health care absolutely sucks in PR.... if you can you are better off coming back to the mainland to take care of any problems you run into...
I am starting to ramble.... lack of sleep.... post any other questions you may have and I will do my best to answer them.
