American Eagle Pilot Hiring Outlook - VP Flight Ops.

The following letter is from Jim Winkley, VP of Flight Ops for American Eagle.

I've seen "hiring agreements" and "Letters Of Agreement" in the past... but this is something I've never seen before. It's been argued here before that ATP and other flight schools don't "really" have direct connections with the airlines for hiring their grads. But this seems to contradict that.

Good news for ATP grads looking to go to Eagle though. I know of a dozen or so who have already interviewed.

definitely good news. i just got done with atp's program, and know of several of their cfi's who have class dates with eagle.

Thanks for posting this, Bob. I think we could all use a positive outlook after what has been a long dry spell.

This "outlook" does not mean anything. It says even less than the "interview agreements" of two years ago. It does not even pretend to commit either Eagle or ATP to anything.

Sounds like ATP wanted to get another interview agreement, but this is the best compromise they could get.

Wow... I didn't see it any where's near as negative as you did Matt.

Like I said, I've seen many hiring agreements in the past, but nothing directly from an airline VP that so specifically compliments a specific flight school and its graduates, and appears to be backed up by the most recent hirings.

Thanks for posting this Captain Bob.

I finished ATP in 07...instruct and fly small corporate ever since.
I have an interview scheduled with Eagle March 23, hope going to ATP will help me...reading the way the previous interviews sound(from posts on Jc)
they seem kinda random with new hires.
Oh well, best of luck to all who get in

If AE is now the second largest regional then who is the largest? When I was hired AE stated that they were the largest. Did Republic pass them up?

I'm still trying to figure out where this hiring is coming from? Last I heard this was for a turbo prop base in San Juan, PR that Eagle was expanding but that was just a rumor (I would also be curious to see what the mins were and how many were hired). Also noteworthy is that most of the guys (as shown on ATP's website) that were hired had been with ATP 2-3 years, which just goes to show you that there is no quick and easy way in the door.

2-3 years is still pretty quick! Sure its not the 6 months after getting your ppl like we saw a few years ago. I think instructing for a couple years before going to an airline is great.

Definitely not a rumor... classes have been going on for a while now and I have a buddy (fellow JC'r) who started class today.

He chose ATR/DFW, but they were also giving out ERJ slots too. I don't know where you got the "San Juan only" rumor from.

Good to know, thanks for clairfying Bob.

Latest class included 5 more ORD EMB FO's. Hopefully we find out the bid results for the current NY CRJ vacancies. My guess is they won't get fully filled and we will need to hire into those positions.
