Never seen ya'll in SLC before until this morning. Two MD's in the parking lot with a Eagle RJ at the gate.

What up?

They have been there for about a week from what I can tell. I saw them last week up there. I had to do a double take.

I once heard a DL pilot say that a MD-80 at SLC altitude, not a good idea.
Which is why his airline flew the 90 into there, much better performance he claimed!

Beats me. I haven't the slightest idea of the differences between the -80 and -90. I'd imagine there's a performance boost.

I've heard that the one thing you don't want to do is get slow in the -80.
I'd imagine the density altitude of it SLC makes a difference.

MD-80s seem to eat up a lot of runway even here in Chicago. Bet it's much worse a few thousand up.

the 2 AA ORD-SLC md80's per day have been replaced by Eagle crj-700's.. 3 flights per day..

Its a joke. 280 seats down to 204 seats per day.. It was always full before and i was in the jumpseat 90% of the time.. Typical AMR..

That commute sucks now.. I remember 3-4 years ago it was still ALL mainline.. about 8 flights per day Delta md90's, AA md80's, United A-320's.. now its 100% RJ trash.

It's not impossible, but it's just not "optimum"! :)

I flew an -88 from SLC to RNO and, well, at least it outperformed the CRJ! :)
