What do you guys think?

American Airlines subsidiary of the AMR Cooperation has announced that they are making changes to it structure and adding new aircraft to its fleet and more destinations to the route map. American Airlines has secured 2.9 billion dollars in additional liquidity for the financing of new aircraft for American’s fleet and to add new destinations.

How are pilots feeling about this?

Hey, I know you're new and all but it's considered bad form to post the same thing in two places. Just put your post where you think it best fits and people will answer it there. Sort of basic web etiquette.

Um, we are not 'furloughing' pilots.

AA and AE have 'furloughed' pilots. We are not immediately anticipating more.

Recalls will come when the company begins to grow again. In order to grow, we have to replace old aircraft, and acquire additional aircraft on top of this.

This was all more or less expected, and pretty much considered smart.

Things will come around in time. Until then, stirring the pot doesn't help much.

I should have worded my sentence structure a little better. What I ment buy this is that American has laid off pilots and resorted to pilot pay cuts but magically money comes about when American claims that it does not.

American made some magic deals to sell things to people for a chunk of change, used the aircraft purchases to bump the AMR stock price, and then sought additional *credit* to add to its liquidity.

You didn't think they just pulled billions out of a hat, right?

Furloughs and pay cuts happened in 2001-2002 for AA and AE furloughs should be back in under a year. The new planes are replacements for old ones. Also keep in mind most of the pay cuts and furloughs are because Carty is an idiot. He paid 2 BILLION for a lot of employees he didn't need.

Your "press" badge shows your title as being: "Officail Aviation Press Official"

That sounds very, unofficial.

Any of you Eagle guys know details by chance of ORD-DEN routes next year? I have heard that RJs are being put on that route which is currently served by the Mad Dog and an occasional 737. Wondering if the RJ is an addition to the current 3-4 AA flights a day or a replacement for one or more of them.

The reason I ask is the potential impact on my commute. DEN-ORD is already one of the worst commutes in the country, and if AA cuts seats it will get even more shall we say 'fun'

All they are saying is DEN-ORD is going to be a mix of AA/AE. I don't know if they are going to add flight or not.

This is a common argument. The company furloughs based on what kind of staffing level they want in the aircraft. Paying these pilots may or may not cause the company a lot of financial harm, but they staff the aircraft to their needs and if they become "fat", they furlough. The company can't be restricted from doing business just because they laid off people. My way of looking at it is just because Airline A buys aircraft, does it mean that they should hire X amount of pilots, even if they are properly staffed? One thing doesn't always lead to the other. Don't get caught up in "well there are people on the street so you can't do that!"

Thanks for the info, hope this already bad commute doesn't get any worse.

I just checked and it looks like we are adding 2 CRJ flights a day. So the MD is going to stay on the flights it is doing now and adding two flights should help you a little.

Whoa! Interesting and helpful at the same time! The mainline flights have been a little more on the full side lately, so I guess it makes sense especially for spring. Thanks again for the info :)

I thought it was just bad spelling...but maybe he really didn't know...either way hilarious!!!!:yup:
