American Airlines ALPA

Meh. I’ve been at two ALPA carriers before. One was good, the other not so much. The union is only as good as the membership and volunteers. I am indifferent at this point, but don’t really see how ALPA is worth the difference in dues.

Due to the complete and utter lack of trip ownership and soft pay/rigs in AA's contract I make 2/3 of what someone at my same longevity and seat does at DL/UA and that's the bottom line. The dues would more than pay for themselves. I fly more straight time here than I did at my regional, its honestly unbelievable most days.

AA's pilot workforce is a complete bargain as a whole compared to UA/DL, full stop.

That may be true (I haven’t seen data to support this), but what evidence do you have that ALPA would fix this? Our membership voted in a clown like Sicher as president. Remember the Tumi TA at United?

I do remember Tumi, and I remember what happened with everyone involved afterward.

I have almost no hope for the membership. I honestly don't know if guys just don't have friends at other airlines, compare notes or ever mentally leave the DFW bubble thus thinking that what's happening at AA/APA is acceptable, but I would be encouraged that having ALPA's professionalism would at least partially get us on the right track for the next contract. I think this every single time I'm sweating my ass off and being elbowed in the middle seat in coach on a dead head, while DL and UA guys sit in first class, no upgrade listing and finger crossing required, rig 1 of 100 that we DON'T have, and that's just a small one.

Absolutely not, I have no hope for any progress under APA.

The one safety related committee that I did attempt to volunteer for, as I have extensive experience on that committee from a former airline, no one emailed me back.

Remember, there is no world outside of American Airlines, Trinity Blvd and the United States Air Force. Nothing else beyond that realm exists. It's all fake.

Some like to live in continual complain and fight mode. No matter what gains are achieved its never good enough and the cherry picked item is better at X to keep the cycle going. No matter the union name, this cycle will continue.

I am not trying to argue, but the items I'm speaking about are not cherry picked, they are industry standard language that we lack and I'm simply not sure if people at AA realize this or not and it can be better.

I love my job, I have a great time, but let's be honest in that we work for 2/3 pay of UA/DL on the narrowbody.

everything you said I agree with except the pay disparity, not saying there isn't one, but my buddies at DL and UA in the same seat and almost same longevity, that don't pick up anything end up almost identical in take-home. anecdotal

and sometimes I'm ahead due to Reassignment pay which happens at least once a month.

no complaints here though...love my job
