AME "doesn't do" MedXpress?

Greetings! I'm a ground instructor... I have a student I passed over to my AME (Who I haven't seen since 2011), but apparently my AME's secretary told the student that they don't do MedXpress, and that he'd have to deal with the FAA system himself. This caused some confusion for him, but he scheduled the appointment anyway.

It also confuses me! Should I warn him off and have him visit a different AME?

1) He should go elsewhere.
2) If he completes the MedXpress, he needs to take the confirmation number to the AME (any AME). ALL AME's are required to use medXpress.

Thank you. That was my understanding, as well. I guess I'll (reluctantly) find a different AME and send him there too.

This Dr. didn't actually have a computer, last time I was in his office.

Thanks again!

It baffles me how he does it then. We were instructed to shred all of the paper Form 8500-8 in October. You have to print the medical certificate from the computer.

I would suspect miscommunication. The nurse may have been telling the pilot that he needed to be the one to input the data into MedXpress prior to the visit, rather than expect the office to do so upon his arrival.

Fox, I'd suggest maybe you follow up with the AME office directly for clarification if you like that particular doctor.

I'm not a big fan of this new system either. I realize it's only for a year, but the harder paper card folded up in my wallet barely lasted, I'm not sure how well my new paper one is going to do... And it's not in such a format it could be easily laminated.

Just got my new medical from Dr Forred and I have no problem with the one he prints lasting. Fold it up and put it on a plastic badge holder. It shouldn't need to come out that often for the pvt pilot on up IMO.

My only beef with medxpress is that it doesn't store your data from year to year. Inputting more that a couple of medical visits is a PITA.

It has a lot of room for improvement.

Aren't they just printed out on regular paper? Is there some reason you can't make a copy or two as a back up?

I don't see anything on mine that would prohibit it but I didn't look up all the statutory references either.

1) The information on the right side of the certificate printed by the FAA is what used to be on the back of the old certificates. If that is not there, the certificate is not valid. We print the info on the right side on the back so we can cut the certificate to a smaller size and comply with the regs.
2) We use a 32 pound paper stock to make it last (this is similar to the weight of the old certificates.
