Altimeter Watch

Hey guys,
I was in the market for a new watch and noticed this listed in the new sporty's magazine. Has anyone either owned one of these watches or none somone who has? I'm curious as to how accurate the altimeter is? I think it would be really neat to have and fly with if the altimeter is updated somewhat quickly. Any opinions?

And it tells time too!

But is it "akka-rit"?

...and it wouldn't be of much use in a pressurized aircraft.

I can see it now:

"Excuse me, ma'am, the captain says we're at 35,000 feet but my watch says we're only at 8,000. Can you talk to him? I don't want to crash into the Rockies."

Just wait until you have your first passenger drop by during deplaning, show you his handheld GPS and query you about about flying a 20 mile downwind before turning base.

I have a Suunto Altimax which I got at Costco for 100 +- $10 (can't remember the price) and it's fairly accurate withing 20 or so feet once it's calibrated. Decent watch but a little larger than I would have liked.

Doug, have you seen the column "Ask the Pilot" on Salon?

I think that the author of that column can relate!

For the love og God, pleas tell me you're not seriously considering getting one of these........much less any of the other useless crap Sporty's comes up at over-inflated prices?

I've got a simple Casio watch that tells time both local and 24 hr. Issued in pilot training, it still works so I still use it.

If you really want something like this or a Breitling with a built-in ELT or Citizen Quartz Aviator with oh-so-very-useful E6B around the bezel, go ahead and dump the dime. I personally would save the cash for something more useful.
