ALPA, I am Impressed, Thank You!

For everyone who works at a unionized carrier, and for those who don't, I just wanted to let everyone know what ALPA did for me today...

I sent an e-mail to an ALPA address listed at the back of the shiny magazine and within FOUR hours, I received a phone call from Captain Paul Rice. For those who don't know him, flip to the back of your ALPA Mag and look immediately to the right of CA Prater.

I honestly had no idea what to expect because I hadn't called National before, but in light of this lightning-quick response, I must say I am VERY impressed.

I didn't even include my phone number in the e-mail.

I've only met him once and he took the last chocolate chip cookie just as I was going for it.

Other than that he was a nice guy.

So, you are impressed because they returned an e-mail with a phone call??

Ask him about the 'stache! :) :sarcasm:

During the whole Doug Taylor vs. Shawn Raker/Comair Academy debacle a few years ago, they were very responsive.

I have worked with Rice quite a bit and yes, he is a stand up guy. Look for him to be elected ALPA president after Prater leaves. Also, keep the names Lynch, Leneski, Day, and Schwartz in the back of your mind.

Marie Schwartz?

Isnt that what we pay dues for? For them to get back to us, and help with various issues.

Captain Rice is top notch. He is by far the best of the bunch up in Herndon.

I wish that were the case, but I'm not sure that he's even interested. I think you'll wind up with a three-way race next year: Prater, Moak, and Webb. It should get interesting.

I don't think you understand what position Captain Rice is in. He's basically the second in command for the entire union of 54,000 members. For him to return a phone call for a rank-and-file member is pretty damned good. This guy is usually busy dealing with Congressmen and foreign governments, so the fact that he takes time out of his day to call members is simply amazing.

I've always gotten a pretty quick response. Probably because I know most of them first hand and hell, one of the attorneys I knew back in college when she was dating one of my fraternity brothers.

I keep telling people aviation is a very small world.

Seems like whenever there's a BOD meeting, there's always some text messages about "I'm sitting here with (whomever)"

Um...in my experience, a phone call from someone who was not provided your number = I want to serve you. That's top notch.
