Almost died and didn\'t know it
Well I was talking to this guy who told me his friend had a private pilot's license and took him flying to Alberqueque (sp?) one day from Phoenix. I guess there were in some four seater Cherokee. That is a long flight over mountainous terrain for a Cherokee.
Anyway, so the guy tells me that they were flying over the Mongollian Rim during thunderstorms! (For anyone not familiar with AZ, the rim is about 9000 ft elevation in the mountains of North East Arizona) He said he was the passenger, and that there was lighting everywhere, they were just above the tree line, and were dipping in and out of the clouds with lots of turbulence!
To make it weven worse, he said his pilot was nervously glancing at a folded map trying to figure out where they were!
I told him, "Dude do you realize that your friend almost killed you!" He said no, he just figured it was bad weather.
Then I asked, "Well was the pilot instrument rated?" He said, "I don't know." I said, "well were you talking to any controllers?" He said "no never!"
I told him, "That's was really dangerous. You're lucky to be alive." He said, "Oh really, well next time I'll have to ask him about that."
