Alaska Survey

Nice. I did the same thing in a 210 back in 03. We fly all the way up to Barrow at one point. Amazing experience.

Right on! In a navajo panther shootin the freakin' laser beams. [LiDAR]. Yeah man. This is one of those times I can say aviation has taken me to places people pay thousands of dollars for. Ha, and I'm getting paid, housed and have my own limo driver! [sensor op] haha!

Where/who were you getting LiDAR for? I ask because I have a professional acquaintance who is extremely interested in Alaska digital elevation, so knowing what data might be upcoming is important for him....

And good lord, those photos are incredible. It's so easy for professional pilots to get mired in pay and lifestyle and forget that you get to see things that so few have. At one point years ago I had a schedule that had me flying out of at tiny Caribbean island at 6AM, followed by a commute that had me eating tacos in Tucson before dark...every week. With all the difficulties I wouldn't trade that time for anything.

With the fall colors right now and the snow at the 6k feet range, it's very very beautiful up here right now. The firey reds and bold yellows.

Also, if you're flying at night, especially around midnight up around Fairbanks or north, the Auroras have been really great recently.

That unfortunately is NDA and I can't divulge into that information. Your acquaintance however can call our office number to inquire and speak with our VP for more info. I would highly encourage that. kasurveys.com our Philadelphia office number is listed there.

Ah yes the views are incredible. But I would venture to say that views don't pay the bills and the pay can be justified as a valid distraction. It only goes so far. However, to get the best of both worlds yes it is rewarding!

I was just there two days ago! Picked up a 182 and ferried it back down to the lower 48. AWESOME pics man.

Just got back to the hotel. My photog and I decided to drive north to portage glacier in the middle or the night and do some night photography of the Milky Way. Well we got that and a time lapse of the aurora borealis! Pics and animation to come soon. First time seeing that! Wow!

Just watch out for bears! :)
