Alaska/Horizon and customer service

I dont know how they do it, but they never fail in the customer service department. The crews are always friendly, and provide service with a smile.

I just got off a Horizon flight, the FA had the entire plane going in a game of "How the Grinch stole Christmas" trivia before, according to him, the pilots "start the fans":laff:

The pilots were also sporting the fuzzy dice:).

They however need to motivate Menzies to get their butts in motion because it took 1/2 hour for our luggage:banghead:

I've heard of the fuzzy dice crew, but have not seen them yet. My all time favorite was a Q400 Crew that propped a giant "Yes, We're Open" sign in the captain's window as we boarded in Seattle.

Are you still working graveyard? We'll be touring Horizon's MX facilities on Tuesday morning (at PDX), if you're there it will be nice to say hi.
 
I was thinking that the other day. I had to fly from Texas to Oregon last week...the first leg of the trip was on a legacy carrier. I swear everyone working that flight was depressed...ticket agents, gate agents, pilots, flight attendants. As soon as I got to the Horizon gate at LAX I felt a complete 180 in atmosphere and morale. Every time I fly Horizon/Alaska I get off the plane feeling good (that could also have something to do with being back home, but still...). It's really cool how they provide local wine and beers as well as snacks from local companies. The oatmeal applesauce cookies I had were awesome! AND...they refill your pop if you want more!
 
I always seem to have a pleasant experience as well on Alaska. One of these days I'm going to get on one of their planes and see Velo or Mike in the cockpit! :D

Would you do that while jumpseating, though? There's gotta be some sort of law against that.....

I've been tempted.
 
Doing it while jumpseating is a great way to get fired. If you're riding a pass though, bottoms up I suppose.
 
I don't see that doing it while jumpseating would be an issue as long as you're in the back and not riding in the actual JS.

Neither did many pilots who have been fired over doing that. Trust me, don't drink while you're jumpseating, even if you're sitting in the back.
 
Hmm...would be the first I've heard of it. Are you talking riding in back in plain clothes people have gotten the ax? That's pretty sorry if its true.

Yeah it has happened. Just remember that you're an auxilliary crew member whenever you jumpseat, even if it is in plain clothes and in a regular cabin seat.

Yep, probably will be for many years if I stay a mechanic. You will have fun.

Unfortunately my weekend started this morning so even if your there early enough for graveyard to still be on, I won't be there. The majority of the mechanics you'll see have grey hair on line maintenance days, as that is our most senior shift.

There were two planes in C-check last night, so hopefully you'll get a good view of the inner workings of the planes.

Don't be fooled by lack of planes in the hangar. Days and swings are our dead shifts in line maintenance. Being broke is the only reason we have planes in the hangar then. At night we usually have the hangar and ramp full of planes.
