Are the people on the a.net board hired to do research because they are really good at it. Anything aviation related you need to know they will find it in a matter of seconds right up to the tail number of an aircraft flying over my house at any given time. The funny thing I noticed is most of them arent even in the aviation industry. I dont even need to Google anymore :)

Most of them are geeks but the tech/ops forum is excellent.

An article I wrote is on the front page of airliners.net right now! It's below the thumbnail pictures in the center.

They always seem to get aviation news before the websites I frequent. So I just go there for news sometimes.

Their photos are very nice as well.:)

I wonder if they are doing more harm that good sometimes. They are a resource for finding tail numbers ect., but what if you are flying over someone's house (legally) for landing and that someone pulls your tail number and complains to the local airport. I am astonished sometimes about the legal rights citizens have who live near airports that are owned by the community/city.

As a military member, I have also seen a case where a picture was posted of a military transport that landed at a certain location over seas. I think it said sometime to the affect of "flying troops and supplies in support of the war in Iraq." We don't fly to this particular perfectly safe location anymore.

This plane spotting thing is getting out of control IMHO.

Wait, so if someone "calls" in your tail number, what happens?

I cant believe they'll believe some joe schmoes "opinion" on what "right" flying should be like.

Well, if you guys learned anything from that "TSA training" all you need is some tape to manipulate your tail number.

I didn't say anythinga bout "right" flying. You could be flying totally legally and safely, but it seems that citizens have an overly strong athority when it comes to things like noise abatement. Even when the airport has been there longer than the homes. Look at the Santa Barbara airport they have what they have dubbed the "Oprah departure" because they don't want people flying over the giant homes.

I have heard of cases where specific planes have been cautioned not to fly over these areas..

LOL - All I remember is something like, Your student sweats profusely and asks if he can fly into the Hoover Dam. What is the appropriate response?

Glad to see the TSA is improving safety in GA.

all you have to do is tell them that it was your judgement that safety could be adversely affected by complying with their requested departures and you are all set.

"Your student is taking a picture of airplanes at the perimeter of airport property, what should you do"

Proper response: "Notify the authorities"

At that point, I just started clicking as fast as I could to get the damn certificate.

Yeah, I don't think I got more than 30% correct on there and I still got that high quality certificate.

Now that I think about it, I could have probably created that certificate in photoshop and then printed it out faster than it took to take the test.
