Airliner down in Russia, all feared dead

Like I said on the other board....FSB chief on board. At least one other person directly related to govt officials too. I'm thinking there might be more than coincidence here.

Certainly smells just a little......
RIP

Wow, and we think the US media is horrible with aviation stories. Check out the photo in this link. Look familiar?

Geez. Morons.

RIP to those onboard...strange it would just "explode" on landing.

What seemed strange to me was that normally when you see a nose down crash the flame starts small and quickly mushrooms. Here it really looked like a massive explosion which was then followed by the big flame ball.

And also curious what the flash is just prior to contact - perhaps hitting a light pole or something.

The camera's sensor appears to be "blown out" by the excess light in an otherwise night scenario.

The flash (which commenters say was "clearly" an explosion from the engines, OBVIOUSLY, duh) was the anticollision light, as was mentioned above.

I normally completely refrain from speculation, but...its tempting to try and understand why the hell that would happen. Unless, you know, "accident".

Story goes this was the third approach after 2 missed.... loss of control in a go-around? Pure and utter speculation. Even so, it's hard to imagine a stall so aggressive they come down 90 degrees nose down

Probably an oligarch aboard who didn't include Putin on his Christmas card list.
You laugh, but there is a crew "based here" who hasn't been back since November.
I agree with trying not to speculate. But I do know some people from inside the motherland and word going around there (take it for what it is) is that it was a go-around in heavy IFR at night…excessive pitch, subsequent stall, and then insert above video.

Regardless of the why, its a sad day for everyone.
Well, I am here in "the motherland" and haven't heard that. Of course, while here, I try to stay away from aviation types, for the most part, so considering this happened 24 hours ago, I would refrain from the rumots. Nobody knows what happened.

Watch any twin where there is an engine failure and the Vmc is compromised. I am ABSOLUTELY not saying this is what happened, I'm just saying we have NO clue what happened. Let's wait for the investigation. Luckily, it was a 737 so the NTSB will be involved. They will not lead, but they will be involved.
