Airline Resumes

Any websites or books out there that gives examples and helpful hints in putting together a resume for the airlines? Getting near the time for me to straighten mine out, and wasn't sure if there was a particular format the hiring boards like to see.

I know to keep it to 1 page, have CURRENT contact information, short and sweet, yada yada yada. More my uncertainty comes with the format. Where is flight experience placed, education, and all the rest of that stuff?

Any leads would be great!

I have a book that is pretty good. You can look and I bet you will fing it really inexpensive in half.com or another such site.

Real Resumes for Aviation & Travel Jobs by: Anne McKinney
ISBN# 1-885288-24-7

Hope this helps some!

All you need

Make sure on your resume you tell them that you logged all your instructing time without a headset, then they'll know you're serious.

Sometimes searching actually works :)!

For the resume style I used, click here:

Hint #1: see the last post :)

EDIT: Just looking over that post, you can add PSA to the list, as well as Piedemont. I think most employers care about the qualifications ON the resume and spelling/grammer, rather than the format itself, as long as it is easy to read. Also, after talking to a recruiter friend of mine who does the recruiting for a smaller 135 freight company, he likes to see actual accomplishments on there, rather than duites - ie putting down you instructed at a Flight School is a no-brainer. Show how you helped the company, etc. etc.

Thanks for the help. Was there a Word program that had that type of resume format, or did you just build it from scratch? I found one before, but it wasn't a real good structure for the format I'm looking for.

As for the instrument time included on the resume, I've heard there is a ceratin amount of FTD time that can be counted toward total instrument time (something like 20 hours). Its related mainly with Instrument ratings, but I thought I heard the airlines accept it as well. Any insight on that? Could mean a lot more hood time for me!

Thanks again!

I made it from scratch. Post or PM me your email address and I can send it to you if you want a copy. It's in MS Word format.

I personally wouldn't include any instrument time in FTD's. But that's just me. Technically, you could include all the instrument time you wanted to on a resume*, what the FAR's let you include toward a rating have nothing to do with if you can include it toward employment purposes. But, like I said, why include it? The time really is meaningless. Employers want meaningful time.

*Instrument time logged in the sim certainly is not "hood" or "actual", and I would caution against logging it or reporting it on a resume or application as such.
