Hey Doug, and anyother airline pilots out there...

Do you preffer to fly at night, or during the day? Why, and how different is flying at night compared with day?

Cheers

I like a good mix of both. Its for much of the same reasons that i enjoyed both when i was training and as a CFI. A night you can get a lot of things from ATC that you cant in the day time. But I dont like flying at nite all the time as it can grow very boring not hearing much on the radios, getting cleared to land 20 miles out and told "cleard for visual, cleared to land, taxi to the gate" all by the same controller etc...variety is good!

I enjoy flying at night, having said that, a couple of years ago I was flying night freight and found it great for sharpening Instrument skills (B1900 No Autopilot) but departing at midnight, flying up to 4 sectors, usually block about 7.0 and get to bed at 9am... it got old... FAST!

These days, the occasional night flight is more than welcome. Nothing better than city lights from the air and even the challenge of a "blackhole" approach to an airport in the middle of nowhere keeps things interesting.

Day time flying is fairly straight forward, and I like not having to make sure I take a brew of coffee with me just to keep me awake!
