Description

Performs preventive maintenance, FAA required inspection, repair, adjustment, and component overhaul of multi-engine, fixed-wing, and rotary-wing aircraft; performs major overhaul work of all rotary-wing component parts including airframes, sheet metal and drive train components; including Magnaflux, Zyglo, and other nondestructive inspection of steel and aluminum parts; does similar inspection repair, and maintenance work on fixed-wing aircraft - both single and multiengine, constant speed propellers, engines, controls, air-frames, sheet metal work, subassemblies, instruments, accessories, and special aerial treatment equipment.

Assists in modification design and performs modification, overhaul, and assembly of aerial spray equipment, including booms, nozzles, pumps, controls, solenoid units, and recording devices for mounting on light helicopters and medium fixed-wing aircraft. Installs radios, sound recorders, photographic equipment, and special equipment in rotary and fixed-wing aircraft. Modification involves weight and balance computation of FAA forms, minor structure redesign, and the building of light metal structures. Work includes aircraft grade welding (ferrous and nonferrous alloys), replacing, doping, taping, patching, reconditioning, and painting of metal surfaces. All work and installation must comply with not only FAA standards but with the safety standards of the TVA Aviation Unit.

Studies and keeps up to date on latest FAA and factory service bulletins, revision pages for maintenance and overhaul manual describing new and improved maintenance and overhaul procedures; keeps log book entries up to date on all inspection and repairs made. Keeps records on individual helicopter parts and assemblies and total time, date of installation or removal, and their number of hours of life before overhaul and retirement is due. A number of parts have mandatory retirement life. Provides data on parts and maintenance in proper form for entry into computer maintenance programs.

Utilizes electronic vibration isolation and diagnostic system to identify and correct vibrations in helicopter rotor power train drive system.

The official station for this job is at the aviation unit at Muscle Shoals. Frequent and regular travel to aviation units at Knoxville and Chattanooga will be required for ongoing inspections and maintenance to aircraft based at those locations. Travel to other field locations will be necessary for maintenance/repairs to aircraft or to support aerial application or special equipment programs.

Observes and follows safe work practices and, through personal action and assistance, encourages others to do likewise; keeps the work area free from hazards; and informs supervisor of existing and potential safety hazards.

This position requires a high type of careful, thorough, and painstakingly skilled work. Since much of the rotary-wing service work will be performed in the field, it is essential that the incumbent be capable of working without supervision with complete confidence of the pilots; settled, reliable, and steady work person capable of staking their license and livelihood against their thoroughness and quality of their work.

Minimum Eligibility Factors

* An FAA Airframe and Powerplant license (Inspector Authorization Desired)
* Five years of recent experience working on Bell Helicopters and/or MD helicopters
* Completion of a Bell or MD Factory School Field Maintenance training course
* Component overhaul experience.
* NDT (non destructive test) training
* Possess good computer skills
* A Commercial Drivers License will Hazmat Authorization is desirable
* Any candidate for this position should also be willing to travel and fly in TVA`s helicopters in support of Helicopter Services` construction missions.
