Aircraft Insurance...

Stomp16

You mean Shennanigans?!?!
I have been asked to fly a Mustang for a company but do not have any time in the aircraft. I have received some insurance quotes and everyone requires 50-100 hrs in the aircraft to be insured. Is there a way around this or how do people make this work? We could have a 2nd, experienced pilot in the aircraft for those hours but of course that would cost more. I'm curious to know how others have dealt with this. This is a great opportunity and I don't want to lose out due to insurance issues.

Also, does anyone know how long the training at FS is for this type rating?

Who is flying the Mustang right now? Is it possible for you to tag along on trips and log Sole Manipulator PIC?

What's your background? TT? Do you have turbine time as PIC in something like a Pilatus or a King Air?
if you have no time in type and low turbine time you'll have to do 25 SOE just to get the restriction lifted from your certificate once you complete the type rating - assuming you get it at a school in a sim. So if that's the case, you're halfway there if they'll let you get by with 50 in type.
Then you'll need to simply work off the next 25 with a mentor pilot, there are a good number of these guys around, its not cheap, but then aircraft ownership isn't ever going to be......

We REALLY need you to provide your experience if you want us to help you along with this one.
It's a fun aircraft. Where are you going to be based (might be able to find a mentor pilot close) The FSI course is 15 days but they do offer an accelerated course (depending on your experience) that is only 5 days. A mentor/training pilot is expensive but you can defeat most of the time required during the training. If you have G1000 experience, you are about three days ahead.
