Aircraft accident in CA

Unfortunately the morons who want to close or move CCR will probably use this as ammunition in that fight. Sounds like the pilot did well to get on the ground safely. Hope the little girl is OK.

I was doing TnG's when the plane went down. The pilot did an awsome job on getting it down. 5 pm on the 680 is like the 405 in LA at anytime of the day. And CCR will not close, it is federal land and the city took federal money in exchange for the airport to remain open for another 25 years. Plus the NDB approach is so much fun into there, it would not be fair to the new guys not to have to shoot that one a couple of thousand times.

what a mothball field?

Mothball "fleet". Navy ships in storage - not currently being used, i.e. "mothballed". Like Grandma stores old sweaters by packing mothballs with them.

Wow, I hope that girl will be okay. For someone who's from the area it isn't suprising to hear where the plane is from. I've flown out of Grand Junction many times and I've never heard good things about Kempton Air. That plane must've been loaded pretty heavy though to still have some power, and not be able to stay aloft at sea level. I lost partial power in a normally aspirated 172 one afternoon taking off from an airport at 5200 MSL and was able to get it back to the airport.

I guess just the fact that the engine was still turning when the plane landed made me question the pilot's decision making, and wonder if it could have been avoided...but I wasn't there so I can't say that I wouldn't have done the same. Just sounded like a case of "get-down itis" when I read the article the first time in the Denver paper.
