Airbus Headset Question

ClearedForOption

Displaced... again.
I know, another headset question... KMN.

Anyhoo... I'm in initial on the Bus and although they do provide a ship's headset, I don't want to share my germs with fifteen hundred other dudes and dudettes - I am wondering what would be the best headset to buy. I was told (much to my surprise) that we do use a 'hot mic' intercom after the tug disconnect and below 180 - or 10K... or something like that. (we had no such thing on the Diesel 9, just scream over the engine noise and have a earbud set to Spinal Tap volumes blasting ATC in your other ear)

I'm thinking something with ANR, but are not sure of the best options. Also, maybe something a headset that would carryover to the E190. (or if I must I will not sell my Bose X in case I ever transition/upgrade on the 190 - rumor has it that the 190 is LOUD up front)

Any suggestions?

Can't speak first-hand for an Airbus, but I do know they're quiet up front. I use a single-ear non-ANR Plantronics MS50/T30 and it's more than adequate in Boeing equipment. Probably no need for ANR in that thing, either. Full earcup ANR would probably get me laughed at. :)

I'm a fan of the Sennheiser HMEC46 series of ANR, at least in the corporate aircraft I'm in.

I just transitioned from the 9 to the 320 as well. ANR isn't really necessary on the bus. It's really quiet. You'll probably be taking your headset off at 18k so I wouldn't spend a lot on one. I would look for a used Telex 750 on EBay or an 850 if you want to splurge. I have a Clarity Aloft as well that I used in the 9 that I'll probably bring along on my next trip. It will probably be overkill but it's comfortable. You'll also need an Airbus plug adapter to make any two plug headset work. Most pilot shops will have them.

Thanks everyone for the replies... I will probably look for a 750 and a 'airbus plug converter' or a 750 with a airbus plug. I would really, really, really like the 850, but can't really justify spending the dough - since I would like to keep my Bose X for down the road if I need it, and won't even sell my old David Clarkes. (The wife said: why do you need all of these headsets!) And, you are right, I would probably only use it for a short time each day... but then again those are the 'loud' altitudes and any hearing protection is good. So, maybe sell the Bose and buy a 850, or just buy the 750.

Anyhoo... thanks again.
