Hey, anyone know what the requirement is to become an Airbus or Boeing Test pilot? Do they take them from the military or from the airlines? Any particular requirement to apply? Any info apprecitated!

Cheers

It all depends, I know the Boeing Test/Production here in Long Beach, California, their experience is varied, from Retired Military/Airline pilot, retired military, or retired airline pilot. All have quite a bit of hours under their belt & a multiple of type ratings.

I know the chief "test" pilot for United (he mainly ferries new Airbuses from France to Washington state) flew F4's for the Navy...

On a similar note, do you think we will see more career civilians fill these rolls in the future? The military route is becoming less common and civilian test pilot training is starting to pop up. The reason I ask is because the trend is starting to become evident in tactical law enforcement, due to the emergence of REPUTABLE private training facilities (Blackwater, Kroll, etc.). Instead of taking former military (which there are less and less of, definitely not because it isn't good enough), more civilians are assuming tactical positions.
