Air Traffic Managment Degree

Well, as of right now, I think that it is a great option. As we all know, the airlines are not doing well at this time. I think ATC route would be great. I can still fly and while I am doing ATC or even Dispatch, I still can continue to gain all of my ratings, and build time! WITH OUT THE DEBT! I think that this is something for me to really think about. That being said, Air Traffic Management Degree. Thoughts?

Does anyone in the forums have this degree?

I think that would be a good option. It's an associate's degree, right? Depending on how much college you may or may not have, it could take a couple years.

I could see someone doing what you said and easily staying in ATC. The pay and benefits would be hard to give up to go backwards into an entry-level flying job.

...just my two cents...

Yes, their are two and four year degrees. I am thinking about going to CCBC in PA and then transfer to a four year so that I could achieve my bachelor's degree.

What you said about staying in ATC has been a small fear since I know that flying commercially is what I want to do!I just somehow think that this is a good option for me because of the current state of the industry.

How is it flying for Alaska Air?

Just my unexperienced opinion but I always felt it was a waste to go to college for ATC while you could get in ATC w/o spending any money through PUBNAT.

I thought OTS was on a freeze due to funding? I was also under the impression that new hires are most likely coming from college? Military is not an option.

that maybe true for now, but im sure theres a good possibility of pubnats opening back up. I wouldnt pay for something if i had the opportunity to get it for free.

Well I'm in PUBNAT 8 and yes, unless you're CTI right now you're basically not getting in. All of us OTS are hopeful as they have a lot of hiring they need to do for the next few years, but it's doubtful.
