You will also have access to our comprehensive benefits and competitive pay in addition to growth opportunities and excellent retirement options.</p> <p><strong>Job Summary:</strong></p> <p>Akima Support Operations is currently seeking an Aircraft Technician to support the Redstone Arsenal contract in Huntsville, AL. This employee receives and transmits flight plans, meteorological, and other information in air traffic control station (Flight Ops) at Redstone Army Airfield (RAAF), accepts flight plans from pilots in person or by telephone and reviews them for completeness. This specialist routes plans for operating under instrument flight rules to control tower, and control center and for operating under visual flight rules to station in vicinity of destination airport, using radio, or telephone, and provides meteorological, and other information to pilots during preflight, and flight, using radio.</p> <p><strong>Job Responsibilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li><p>Provides commercial and military pilot briefings, preflight, in-flight, post-flight assistance and advisory services.</p> </li> <li><p>Conducts briefings to communicate information required by aviators, including status of navigational aids, weather alerts and advisories, and runway closings.</p> </li> <li><p>Reviews notice to airmen (NOTAM) information with aviators that affect the proposed route of flight.</p> </li> <li><p>Conducts technical review of proposed flight plans submitted by aviators.</p> </li> <li><p>Transmits Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flight plans via Aeronautical Information System (AIS) to appropriate Air Route Traffic Control Centers.</p> </li> <li><p>Provides detailed assistance to pilots in planning route of flight and preparation of flight plans.</p> </li> <li><p>Provides airfield flight advisory service when the tower is closed.</p> </li> <li><p>Relays IFR clearances received from Air Traffic Control.</p> </li> <li><p>Initiates actions to meet special requirements for arriving flights, e.g., Military Assistance and Safety Traffic with medical patients on board or to pick up medical patients which requires notification of Airfield Services, Crash Alert, and hospital.</p> </li> <li><p>Coordinates Airfield Services providing support for transient and tenant aircraft.</p> </li> <li><p>Coordinates aircraft parking, passenger pick-up and delivery, special security, distinguished visitors requirements, crew transportation, and after hours passenger manifesting.</p> </li> <li><p>Maintains flight planning room to assure accurate compliance with FLIP maps and charts, publications, reading information file (RIF) and required equipment.</p> </li> <li><p>Administers Flight Line Drivers Training program and inspect operators have required Light Gun Signals charts available.</p> </li> <li><p>Participates in the airfield Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard (WASH) program.</p> </li> <li><p>Assists alert service in the marshalling of aircraft using prescribed hand and arm signals.</p> </li> </ul> <p><strong>Minimum Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul> <li><p>Must have working knowledge of airfield base operation procedures, to include issuing NOTAMS, scheduling airspace requests, maintaining airfield publications, talking on the radio with aircraft, also must be trained in airfield alert services, to include parking and escorting aircraft.</p> </li> <li><p>Employee shall be able to understand, read, write, and speak English.</p> </li> <li><p>Must possess a valid state driver’s license in order to obtain a US Government issued and airfield driver’s license.</p> </li> <li><p>Must have a minimum of 2 years flight line, ground handling, or FAA equivalent experience.</p> </li> <li><p>Must have all required certifications for the position.</p> </li> <li><p>Must meet all training, qualifications, and certification requirements (Federal, DoD, State, and local) in performance of the job duties.</p> </li> <li><p>Are subject to be screened without notice for drug use by the government.</p> </li> </ul> <p><strong>Desired Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul> <li><p>Previous experience performing Flight Operations/Dispatch functions PERFERRED.</p> </li> <li><p>Control Tower Operator certificate and/or Air Traffic Control Specialist Certified is PREFERRED.</p> </li> <li><p>Previous experience as Airfield Drivers training program administer PERFERRED.</p> </li> </ul> <p>We are an equal opportunity employer.
