Federal Aviation Administration Westbury, New York:<BR /><p>The ATCS (Automation Specialist) is within the ATO, Operational Support Facility (OSF) within Terminal Services.</p> <strong>Duties</strong> <p> <p>The position serves as the automation expert, technical coordinator, team lead and advisor and is responsible for development and improvement of agency air traffic control real-time computer systems by coordinating, planning and conducting support activities relating to the design, development, installation, testing, implementation, evaluation, maintenance and monitoring of these systems pertinent to operational practices, functions and requirements.</p><p>Evaluates and analyzes all facets of air traffic control operations and activities pertinent to the automated system. Evaluates operational and support computer program functions as they apply to air traffic operational requirements. Recommend modifications, enhancements and problem resolution to the ATC operational program.</p><p>Performs the necessary cost/benefit analysis for proposed system hardware/software changes and recommends adoption, modification or rejection based on this analysis of time and available resources.</p><p>Provides timely assistance to OSF Manager offering technical information, guidance and recommendations covering a broad range of field support requirements such as problem identification, evaluation and resolution. Utilizes analytical abilities to identify, define and determine the cause of problems with recommended or developed resolutions for immediate correction and steps to avoid future occurrences.</p><p>Designs, monitors, and evaluates the development and maintenance of OSF systems and site data bases to ensure reliable, consistent and effective operational support to air traffic control facilities and provide accurate statistical data for the justification of future enhancements.</p><p>Reviews and evaluates Program Technical Reports (PTR) and Program Improvements to determine their impact of functional, diagnostic, and support software. Uses in-depth analytical knowledge of software/hardware system, sub-system and interface functions to determine the problem along with effective alternatives and recommended solutions.</p><p>Provides to the OSF manager verbal and written activity reports detailing the progress and status of assigned tasks and/or team projects. Initiates correspondence and documentation as required to fulfill automation responsibilities. Alerts management of potential problems, issues or concerns that could cause an operational impact to current and future systems.</p><p>In consultation with the OSF manager, assigns work to team members and provides technical advice and guidance to lower grade and/or new personnel within work area. May instruct automation specialists as assigned and review their completed work. Monitors and evaluates training procedures, records and documentation for On the Job Training (OJT). Provides recommendations for formal and OJT training requirements, course design, development and materials.</p><p>Identifies personnel requirements, changes in the workload or operational problems and submit recommendations to management based on priority and capability of the staff to meet unanticipated problems or changes in deadlines and/or workloads.</p><p>Provides expert air traffic control operational analysis as required for system specifications to ensure that system requirements are met. Reviews CPFS, NAS Change Proposals, Configuration Control Directives or other documents to verify technical feasibility of proposed changes and translates the approved changes into required system modifications.</p><p>Conducts operational and technical analysis and pre-implementation evaluations of products to ensure system integrity and to determine conformance with specifications for air traffic control operational acceptability and/or air safety.</p> </p>
